Can someone tell me,how to get rid of user account control?
Also how do I get shorcut pages to open maximized?

UAC is set in the user properties - Control Panel, User Accounts.

Open minimized is set in the shortcut properties - right click on the shortcut..

At the risk of sounding stupid.Could you please tell me the steps?

Open Control Panel
Click User Accounts
Click Turn User Account Control on or off
Click the check box
Click OK

Right click the shortcut icon
Click properties
In the Run drop down menu select Minimized
Click OK
