Your Acronis experience?

Over the years I have always used Ghost to do backup and restored.

A bout 5 years ago maybe my friend had introduced Acronis to me..
He said it's the greatest thing out there right now and u can explorer the image etc..
I've tried it, i don't remember what version..but I didn't have good luck with it. It tend to corrupt my OS.

I've tried 3 more times after that with recently last year version...I got the same result. a simple backup then restore..boom! OS blue screen of death

I have also notice my friend sometimes have problem with it corrupting his OS too but he still love it..It's like if you are a fan of something it don't matter u still love it.

I never have such a problem with Ghost..

I have never had a problem with Acronis. Having said that though, I always ran Acronis off a boot CD and never relied on running it through windows.

I have both and end up using Acronis.

It is much more flexible.

I always do the backup through the Network to another computer and or a NAS.

I always validate the backup there after. Acronis TI has a validation capacity, takes 5 -15 minutes depending on the size).

Once in a Blue Moon the validation might be "Bad". If that occurs I immediately backup again.

Acronis TI also have the Universal Restore ad-on which let you install the image on another computer that has different hardware, and then refresh the drivers.

That is great asset when one is dealing with few computers.

I started out using the free version of Acronis that was offered by Seagate, a full version but not the latest.
I liked it so well that I upgraded to the latest version of Acronis. I don't use if for daily backups, but I image a system volume after adding/updating software.

have you already used that new "restore to dissimilar hardware" feature for home edition of TI? It would be great if it's really similar to Universal restore. I used to be a Ghost user, but swithced over to Acronis (the Drive Image 2009 version). It has USB drive support and SATA / AHCI drive support (which my version of Ghost did not). Completely painless, got the job done.

I have the professional Echo version and did many restores with e Universal add-on. It works great.

I saw the other day the new add-on to the Home 2010 version but did not had a chance to try it.

It is probably an adaptation of the Universal restore to the Home version. I do not see a reason that it would not work.

If I can't trust an imaging program to successfully image/restore a system then I'm not going to use it as that makes it worthless. I've been pleased with Acronis as it's been consistently reliable in imaging and restoring, the mechanism for retrieving data from an image through a drive letter is very handy.

When I had trouble with a machine that wouldn't boot into the Acronis software to take an image Acronis support were excellent, they provided a version of their boot CD with more debug options then eventually upgraded me to the next version for free which did resolve the issue.
