DNS issue on Active Directory

Setup Active Directory today and I'm having an issue accessing one website. The FQDN is www.example.com while the domain name is example.com. (changed for privacy).

What do I need to do in order for 'www' to forward to the hosted web server outside of my network?

I tried to Google this but could not really figure out what the search string should be.

Have you set up DNS forwarders in your domain's DNS configuration?

I'm not sure I understand your issue. Are you saying that you can use a browser to access example.com, but not www.example.com, neither of which are on your network?

I'm guessing this is what you're doing:
- You setup a new ADS for Company.
- You decided to call the ADS company.com instead of company.net or company.local or whatever.
- However, company.com from anywhere outside your network actually points to your webserver, but it doesn't work for your local network users.
- Because of this if you type in company.com into a browser on your network it points to your local server instead.

Is that the jist of it?

Just change your ADS DNS server. Create an A record for www.company.com and point it to whatever IP you want. Add it to the "forward lookup zone" for your domain.

MrD is correct.

In the event where a company owns their own actual domain name, I use it for their ADS. I've never had an issue before because almost all of my clients don't even have a website (public entities, small business, etc.)

I tried the A record inside of DNS but maybe I didn't add the Forward Lookup Zone. I'll try that.
