Which is better for gaming and which ones would handle DDO and Torchlight. Thanks in advanace
Where's the question?
The question is would a laptop or a notebook be better for gaming. i know nothing about them. I have a procedure i go throught three times a week and i`m tired of tv, so i thought i would get one of these and game while i`m there. IMO, It would make the time go faster. I guess i just get one with the fastest cpu and the best graphics card . almost forgot the longest battery life and that would be the one best for gaming. How about this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220634 or this one http://www.dell.com/us/en/home/noteb...-m17x_anav_1~~
netbook is not intend for gaming..it's slow even surf the web
ok, lets forget notebook and go with laptop will be streaming movies and doing some online gaming(mostly DDO and Torchlight), which ones are good to do this.
A notebook and a laptop are the same thing.
Are you confusing notebook with netbook?
As far as laptops and notebooks, i have stated i know nothing about them, so i didn`t know they were the same thing. Would a Mod please lock this thread, it don`t look like i`m going to get a helpful answer to my question, anyway.
Either of the laptops you linked before should work for what you're wanting. Only thing you'll want to keep in mind is that laptops won't stand nearly as well as a desktop for gaming performance. For a few hours a week where it's either game with a few less FPS than normal or watch the godawful daytime programming I'd go the gaming route.
Netbooks are confusing since they're popping onto the scene and trying to define themselves differently than laptops. Easy mistake to make, the only real difference is they are usually 11" and smaller screens and they typically run weaker processors on the atom or similar architecture. If you'd still like the thread closed we can go ahead and do that for you.
Thanks, i just can`t carry my desktop to my medical procedure 3 times a week and i`m there for 4 hours per treatment, the desktop in my sig takes care of all my gaming needs at home. I just need someting to do to make the time go by faster, so i would be streaming movies off of netflix and doing a little gaming. just go ahead and leave it open.
Either laptop that you listed would work.
But doing "gaming" on a laptop will require a few things - first of all, forget about gaming on battery. You'll need to plug in to do it. Second, if you're gaming, then I assume you'll need to use a mouse, which means you'll need a hard surface like a desk that has enough room for you to use a mouse.
And lastly, if you're going to be viewing movies / media, and only doing light gaming like DDO and Torchlight, then you should be fine with many laptops that aren't explicitly designed as "gaming" laptops. Just about any laptop can play movies, and DDO/Torchlight don't require the beefiest GPU out there. Torchlight, especially, has extremely low hardware requirements - you can play Torchlight on computers that have the lowest of the low-end in terms of CPU and GPU power.
Looking specifically for a laptop designed for "gaming" pretty much handcuffs you in terms of the options you have. If you consider looking at laptops that aren't designed for "gaming", but are capable of playing movies / DDO / Torchlight, then you get many more options in terms of the price, size, weight, and battery life that you may want to consider.
The chair i sat in has flaps on either side that is large enought for mouse usage, i will look over other laptops and see if i can find one cheaper for my uses. Also i might just find one that meets the requirements for Torchlight, that way it should also play NWN`s and NWN`s 2. I have a lot of older games i haven`t played yet. Thanks.
If it helps, then don't worry about the requirements of Torchlight - any laptop you buy will be able to run Torchlight, and be able to run it well. Torchlight has ridiculously low specs. And NWN will also be able to run on just about anything.
As for a game like Dragon Age Origins, you'll want a computer with a decent GPU and CPU. If you liked NWN or Baldur's Gate, then you'll love Dragon Age: Origins. I run DA:O just fine on my Dell XPS M1330 that has a GeForce 8400 and an Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 (2.5Ghz) CPU.
I bought the Dragon Age Origins Deluxe over bf weekend. Have not started to play it yet. I went to BB yesterday and they don`t have many selections as far as laptops.
Yeah, Best Buy isn't the best place to shop for laptops. Honestly, the best thing for you to do is to research the specs on laptops that you want, and just order online. Not only do you get to pick EXACTLY the specs you want (buying in retail B&M stores limits you to the configurations they have on-hand), but you can also often save some money by using online coupons and discount codes.
I am personally partial to Dell computers - I would get myself a nice 13.3" Dell XPS series laptop that has a discrete GPU. I've owned one of those for a few years, and have decided to keep it, even though my job has offered that I can spend $2000 on any new laptop I want - I still decided to keep my "old" Dell XPS M1330.
Hows this one. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dell+-+S...&skuId=9536451 Don`t know about video card.
