Hi all,
Well, it's starting to sound like it's that time. My laptop has gotten so slow that it's unbearable. I have done all of the cleaning up and maintenance that I can do but it's been almost two years and I'm thinking a clean version of Vista is due.
I'm just wondering what the best way to format is. I haven't done it in so long, I'm not even sure where to start so if anyone could give me any tips on the steps to do it, I'd appreciate it. thank you!
if you have data to be saved, do that right away....
then, when you go to reinstall Vista, the first option will be to reformat the HD with a warning all data will be wiped out.....
then proceed with install, pretty straight forward....you should be up and running in about 30 minutes, however, winders update will keep the system busy for several more hours, and you will have some more quality time reinstalling all your other programs.....
had to do this to my cousins rig this last week, 5 years of usage and she was in bad shape with all the stuff added, viri removal in the past, and just general clutter from proggies loaded and not uninstalled correctly, it was a mess....
runs like a top now....

One thing to check is the air flow to the CPU.
In many laptop after years of work dust clogs the Air Flow to that cools the CPU.
The CPU get hot within short period of time, and self reduce the CPU speed. As a result the laptop act sluggish.

Just keep in mind that many OEM computers, especially laptops, do not ship with disks and use a hidden partition on the drive to create recovery disks or run the restore process. You should make sure you know the restore process before doing anything that may remove/delete any data on any partitions.
I would also recommend installing all system drivers right after the Windows install. You may want to even check into replacing Vista with Windows 7. This should help your computer tremendously with a speed boost.
