say, how would I tell the differance?
also, does conductor count have anything to do with weather it's called an ATA 33 or ATA 66/100 cable?
could someone clarify this stuff for me cause I would like to buy some rounded ATA cables to start my case moding exploits and I still don't know the differance

80-wire cable = ATA66/100
40-wire cable = ATA33
80-wire cable has a blue mobo connector.
40-wire cable has all black connectors.
And the major difference is that the 40/40 has 40 wires on the ribbon cable, and the 40/80 has 80 wires and they are thinner (smaller diameter) than 40/40. It actually feels stiffer than 40/40. in the 40/80 cable, only 40 wires carry signals, the other 40 cables in between are grounded so the signals doesn't get interference from each other.

that's so you don't get that electrical "echo" when transfering data at 66 and 100 MBps, right?

80 conductor allows for safer data travel. 40 conductor cable will work fine with ata66 devices, but newer ata100+ drives will require 80conductor cable. 80 conductor will have 80 wires (you can count them https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/5.gif). Basically it lessens the chance of data corruption at higher speeds...search review websites or even computer magazine sites and they should have an article or two on it.Quote:

If the cable does not have 80 wires, it does NOT have 80 conductors...mere physical impossibility.
