Business use...Intel or AMD

Now first off...this WILL NOT turn into a flaming war. I don't want to hear the following:

"Intel/AMD ownz j00"

"Intel/AMD sucks!"

etc, etc, etc.

I want to hear what everyone prefers for business use. Taking into account heat issues, business applications, cost, ease of use, compatibility, etc...which platform would you prefer. Please don't let this become a flaming war. If it does, I want the mods to close it. I just want to see what everyones (educated) opinion on this subject is. Thanks a lot.

If you know what you are doing it dsnt make a difference.

If teh no techies touch teh comps I have to say go with Intel. IMO they are more stable.

It's an interesting question to touch on because most computers on the market for retail use have been made with intel chips. Because of this, most businesses have bought INtel comps from the big retail companies. Now HP and Compaq are selling a lot more amd. Infact, at the Staples I work at, they appear to have dropped p3's completely and are only selling xp's and p4's.

Most people will admit that, power for buck, amd tends to come out on top. When you buy stuff for a business. You usually want good tech support so you would take Dell over compaq even though you know that Compaq has been putting out better pc's lately.

The bottom line isn't so much what cpu you buy but where you buy it from. The companies that make the heatsinks stick the same fan on their p3 hs as the amd and in many cases, they are even the same heatsink so the fan is just as likely to die. The difference is, with Dell, your comp might be down for 2 days while they send you the hs and fan or mayb even the processor while with compaq, it might be down for a week.

Go with the best tech support/warranty.

P.S. Don't buy en extended warranty from any retail store becuase they are rarely through the manufacturer.

If you want to build it yourself and work with individual manufacturers warranties on each part, go AMD and don't cut corners, buy the nice Asus board over the nice abt because the are better about RMA's and try and stick to retail parts as much as possible.

1.) Go into the CPU forum and ask why P4's are so much better than Athalons?
2.) Go into the Video card forums and ask which is better, a geforce3 ti500 or a radeon 8500?
3.) Go into the Video Cards Forum and call 3dmark stupid and pointless.
4.) Go into the General Hardware forum and ask what the best possible system is if money isn't an issue.

I'd say AMD.. they're cheaper and more performance for the buck. They're pretty stable too as someone said about Intel. I don't think you would like paying a Ferrari price for a Toyota (AMD). The Intel in this scenario is at best a Nissan.

Also.. since AMD have been consistent with Socket A processors and they are not changing them anytime soon... you won't have to upgrade your motherboard everytime you look to upgrade your processor.

Other than that.. look at the benchmarks.. and oh.. if you don't plan to overclock AMD is the way to go.. if you do.. probably Intel.

for business use, its a heck of a lot easier to purchase pre-built PCs. As the topic stated..."for business use". Here at work we go with Dell pretty much exculsively. For reasons such as ease of service, great technical support, and they put out a good, quality product. One of the guys here at work has been ragging on AMD on how they're crap for using in a business enviornment, etc. So I wanted to get some other opinions on the subject rather than my own. Keep 'em coming...

It is my personal opinion that Dell makes good business PC's and so so home PC's. (The take the better products and put them into the business machines) This makes sense if you think about it. Dell would much rather loose one family who may buy a 1000 dollar PC every 4 years to a buisness that could be putting in 100,000 dollar orders every year.

I still would go with AMD if possible. They are cheaper and do everything that an Intel chip would.

Intel is cheaper in a lot of cases because you can get everything onboard, video, sound, and NIC. Although there are a few AMD boards with the video, not sure about the NIC.
