The micro vs. macro kernel debate has been going on for years. Linus likes his way best of all, and is ready to site hundreds of reasons why. If you asked the mach people they would probably come back with reasons why there way is better... And both would be equally correct. Either way it is only an opinion, it just happens to come from a guy that does a ton of kernel development work, and who is very popular in the technical community, so it wieghs more in a lot of others opinions.
As for Linus being like Bill Gates... I have heard Linus say things to the effect of "That is what I said, and I fully agree that I was wrong". He never claims to know everything and he is not affraid to compeletly change his views on a subject. Bills Gates thinks he is never wrong, there is a big difference... oh, and that whole thing with money.
Ummmm, how can you say that mutimedia has little to do with the kernel when benchmarks prove that kernel 2.4 is 10-15% faster in Q3A than kernel 2.2.X. Seems to me it has at least a decent portion to do with it.
