Note from ol' Vindi

Ok guys, just thought I'd put in a little note for the practice what you preach principle. Some of you guys might remember a dead Tbird that was baffling me to no end? Well, without another high wattage, high quality psu laying around I never tried switching out sources. What was my problem? Yes folks, it was the supply. So for you guys running 2 hard drives, a DVD, a CD-RW, and so on along with your Tbird that is competing for energy, remember to buy a nice fat PSU https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/5.gif 300w is out the door, not wanting to even bother trying to get someone to honor a warranty, and a pretty little 400w is zipping along as fast as the evil UPS man can groove his legs.

So My 300w PSU is not good enough? Man, AMD should recommend higher PSU like 400w

It was one of the new Antecs. And I'm not implying that 300w isn't enough https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/5.gif I'd be sending her back and getting a new one if I cared enough to fool with the process.

If you're curious as to the quality of Antec, I've heard mixed reviews. Some great, some ugly. Guess until I come across another Antec to play with I'll be under the ugly column.

Man, AMD sure is power hungry. I have a 300w PS, and it is handling a ton os stuff on my system. I have a cd burner, dvd drive, 9 fans, my 6 PCI, ISA slots are maxed out, cereron pulling 1.85v, etc. Mabey I am just lucky, but I thought 300 should be enough for most.

A quality 300w really should be enough for most anything you can run these days. It's just you gotta add quality into consideration. I'll only be buying the 400w+ because of the male ego kicking in.

Something to be noted:

Just like other electronics fields (car audio, car electric), not all PSU manufacturers rate their power supplies the same way. Some rate them by their maximum output. Others rate them on their constant output. For the most part high quality companies will rate by constant output, while lesser quality companies will rate by maximum output. I know, for example that my Enermax is rated at 330w constant output. At the same time, the no name PSU that I got for my friend (sorry, Vinson) is rated at 300w max output.

If it seems confusing, ask a car audio guy about it. He'll go off about Amps and how their rated. https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/6.gif

You're exactly right James. I never thought I'd say this, but I think im a fanboy for Enermax! I'd never take sides between ATi or nVIDIA or Intel or AMD, because the balance of power keeps tipping back and forth, but Enermax.... they're just so awesome! The 330w model that I've got in my closet that you mentioned is said to peak at over 500w!
I've got a 430 in my rig now, that must peak to 550-600w.

I agree with you Vindir, my lil 300W was havin a hard time pushin a DVD,CD-RW,2 hds, 1.2 t-Bird, and everything else...got the 431 Enermax, soarin high as an egale.

Yea, if you have multiple drives a 300w just wont pull you through, but if your like me and have all the regular components, all the standard once, 300w is quite enough...although it never hurts to have more, espessially for us overclockers.

I'm getting a 300 watt PSU this month, I'll have to get a Sparkle. This good at all? In my experiance it is but then again I've never come accross Enermax.

NS : 1HDD, 1 CD-ROM, 1x92mm Sunon, 4x80mm Sunon, big ATX motherboard.

They do now, in fact the 300w was the minium recomended power supply on the AMD site.

Sparkle is a fine one, their on the top of AMD approved list. GamePC uses them alot. I think 300w should be enough for your coolin', but are the 80mm fan high intensity? If they are, then get a bigger one.
