It's showing down to 1.60V, but the max power output is still showing up to 72W. I wonder if there will be much change in idle/load temps between T-Bred and the current XP?

The first AMD 333 platforms are supposed to come out in Q1 2002. Basically, they'll be out pretty soon.

Do you have any proof of this? I haven't heard of any chipsets close to release based on PC 333 DDR RAM. JEDEC might have approved the stadard, but we're not at the point of seeing it soon in my opinion. Perhaps Q2 or later. Going to 333 DDR would be almost useless without a synchronous bus and there are few things to indicate a departure from the 266 FSB at least in the life of the Athlon XP.Quote:

AMD won't be increasing the number of transistors by any signifigant quantity with the Tbred (read the 256KB L2 cache) and they've implemented a large amount of the .13 process into their current .18 Athlon XP core. The voltage drop likely stems from a full switch over to .13 and as such is less of a power consumption drop and scalability increase then for example the move from .25 Al to .18 Cu (the older K7s vs. the Thunderbirds) or the move from .18 Al to .13 Cu for the P4.
I believe the Tbred will be a much smaller performance/process improvement then was the Palomino over the Tunderbird. JEDEC approved the DDR 333 spec a few months back. You need to register (for free), but you can look up specs here: http://www.jedec.org/DOWNLOAD/default.cfm
I still believe that it will be Q2 before we see DDR 333 platforms in volume. Also, DDR 333, especially on an asynchronous bus will offer only marginal performance improvements for the K7.
If per chance we see DDR 333 sooner rather then later, then it still won't radically increase the performance of the Athlon. I also stand by my belief that the Tbred will offer minimal performance gains and somewhat higher clocks. Barton, however, might prove to be a bigger step then the Tbred, but details are currently sketchy at best.
