3DMark2001 score/problems

I have a couple of questions,

First I scored a sickly 1737 on the test running at whatever are default "high" setting (can't remember I am not on that computer) and 3111 on 800x600 (where I have mostly played games on my pansy 15" monitor).

This seems quite low right? (Specs below)
Also, I ran the test in Win2k and it ran fine. In 98se it crapped out at the start of the test claiming the video memory was full or something like that. Huh?

I changed some settings in my bios (possible in between test, also can't remember, they were: SDRAM timing [from 8/10-->Fast], Video Aperature [64-->128], Interleave[disabled-->4-way]

Would those affect my video card adversely?

Also what card could I get to increase my speed for less than about $150?

ABIT-KT7-RAID (RAID controller disabled for now)
1.2 Ghz (FSB-100) Athlon
512 Mb 133 MHz Cas 2 Crucial Ram (2x256)
ATI Radeon 32mb ddr
Sblive X-gamer (not 5.1)
30 gb Quantum Fireball Lm (Ata-66)
POS modem (isa)
Netgear NIC (FA312 i think)

All above running in Tornado 1000 case with 300w supply.

my score sucks too. im on a kyro but i doubt it should hardly be able to break 1600. actually all my benchmarks seem to be a bit lower than similar rigs.

I'm not familiar with Radeons so I'm not sure I'll be much help, but I'll try.

1. Did you check your settings (in bios and windows) to make sure that AGP x4 is on? that was my biggest problem. I fixed it by installing the latest 4in1s. I dunno if those will affect radeons but you might as well try.

2. Get the latest radeon drivers which I'm sure you've done.

Hopefully that'll work cuz thats all it took for me.

I didn't think to install the newest 4in1 drivers...in fact I am using whatever came with my mobo....probably crap huh?

And yes I do have the newest official VC drivers and a newer Bios driver (WW) I am having problems flashing to newer ones with stability but that is a whole other issue/thread.

I used to become concerned when folks with Duron 600's, 128K PC-33, and a Diamond Stealth card posted scores of 8876 and above.

But somewhere the line of credibility broke, and I figured than my score is probably about right for my rig.

My score is ok I get in 3dmark 2000 a 6220 and in 3dmark2001 2690 heres my spec below.

With proper tweaking, overclocking and drivers, and driver's settings, i can reach well over 9000 in 3dmark2000 and i have a 4000 mark in 3dmark2001.

for 2001, use detonator 12.90
for 2000, use detonator 10.80, 7.58
turn the settings to be best performance not best quality, and overclock your card
the memory can go like a lot higher 20-50mhz without issues, the core should just go up by 10% or so.

I think i have the highest score for a gf2 gts 32mb and 1.4GHz

Ok THANK YOU SO MUCH, I can't believe how much of a difference it made to install the newest 4in1 drivers.

I just ran the same test, 1024x768, 32 bit blah blah

and I got 2647. 50% increase! Sounds like it fits right where you told me it should, and I don't even know how to overclock, so I won't try that yet.

Overclocking is simple with many Geforce 2's...

Many come with software that overclocks the card when Windows boots up...

Right click on your desktop and go to...

Properties,
Settings,
Advanced,
Geforce 2 (your card),
Additional Properties,
Clock Frequencies...

If you can go this far then you can over- clock straight away...if there is no clock frequencies tab then you have to get a program called Coolbits or fiddle with the registry...others may grace you with finer details.

With minimal over-clocking my little Geforce 2 MX gets 2713 in 3DMark 2001!

You shouldn't feel bad about having a Radeon when compared to a GF GTS, they both are great cards and are more than capable at running all of today's games at acceptable rates. If you are looking to increase your 3DMark 2001 scores might I suggest you use the 4.13.7075 drivers. (These are highly optimized for DX8 and often the best results in 3Dmark 2001 are posted when using these.) I also suggest that you install DX8.0a and the digital video update. Grab any one of the free Radeon Tweaker programs out there:
Rage3D Tweak
Radeon Tweaker
RaidON Tweaker
RadTweak
any of these will give you many MANY tweaking options from simple OCing of your GPU/MEM to adjusting memory latencies, enabling hidden features and attaining peak performance.
