The best part is that you won't even have to pay for it...the 8500 is being released with a 300MHz core(a bonus of 50Mhz that NV would make you pay for 6 months from now). Thanks to Ichnewmon at rage3d for the heads up.

that will undoubtedly make this the king of all graphics cards....for now. If you haven't yet seen the pattern, the memory speed is wayyyy more crucial for video card performance than the core. But anything free of charge is cool. That's why i overclock.

I don't understand how a chip on a 0.15 micron still can get up to 300 mhz , doesn't it need to go to 0.13 micron?
And ATI can better release a radeon 2 MAXX , because it looks like Nvidia is again gonna steal ATI's thunder with the Geforce 3 ti500.
I mean come on ATI!! why can't they release a card as fast as Nvidia, they have been lacking for over a year now.

well, if these specs are correct for the new GF3 it will still be slower than the Radeon 8500. Don't get me wrong, it will be hell fast, but not quite so as the R300 core, assuming ATI gets their drivers in order..

yeah, the radeon original could compete with the gf2's, they just never got the drivers right!

Funny I never had any problems with My Radeon 64meg DDR in win98se/2kpro right now I'm clocked at 250/225 and its faster then My Geofrce 2 ULTRA in most games....Quote:

the driver story is old, it became obsolete with the release of driver 7075 for 9x and 3211 for w2k.
talking about personal experience here, of course, i had to h@kk the registry to get 1280*960 rez (a pain in w2k), and drivers wouldn't uninstall properly (=no vsync without manual registry cleanup), so, there are a few things i dislike, speed wasn't an issue, so far.
one thing is still don't understand is why nVidia's drivers are ~3MB, while ATi's are more like 10MB.

Hey, did any of you people who harp on the "Ati couldn't get the drivers right" actually stop to think that they got just about all the speed out of it they could at launch? Think about how fast it was seeing as in MOST games(name 5 that actually use its 3rd texture unit)it's fillrate potential is half of a gf2. It seems to me that they got the speed right from the get go and the rest of the drivers were used to increase those useless features such as Image Quality, and bug fixes. (At least according to those people who think speed is all that matters)

oh and the only ti series card listed on price watch is a ti200 from pony at $249. To drugboy who thinks the 500 is a pro(at $249 10bucks less than the current gf3) and not the ultra, I got a bridge to sell ya. It would really make their new naming scheme screwy too. And people seriously doubt that ATI can make a 300Mhz .15micron GPU, but if NVIDIA comes before that statement its fine and dandy.

No, according to specs on ATI's site, and other specualtion the 8500 is coming out with an extra 50Mhz over what was previously thought. A bonus of 50Mhz is roughly what NV has added in the past and called it an Ultra...hence the title of the thread.Quote:
