I have 2 computers ,right now are in the same room(I have a crossover cable to config the network)and I'm going to take my computer back up in my bedroom.And I was thinking what would be better,a Router or a crossover cable?
If the speed is better?
If the network playing on computers only not freeze, if starting game from the client?

With only two PC and modern NICs it won't matter. The crosssover is simple and fast for just two PCs.

i had that exact setup two comp with a crossover cable and two nic's. my cable was 100 feet long and the pings never went above 6 in quake3. should work plenty good.
If you were to get more than 2 computers, I would just use a hub, not a router.
If you're going to expand, the hub is certainly the best solution - way cheaper than a switch, and you'll never need the speed the extra $ buys. Also, for CAT5 cable, I'm pretty sure you can get to about 150 feet or so before you'll notice any problems with the connection, so the crossover cable should last you until you get a third machine.
I only have two computers in the house,but I'm a VERY big gamer.And I'm goin to start(first one was today 18)having LAN partys every other Friday https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/5.gif and so I'm so the hub for the home network then when I have a LAN party I unhook the hub and use that

You would TOTALLY see the speed difference between a switch and a router, especially when connecting more than a few computers, and moreso while gaming.
Geek, If you're doing lots of gaming with more than a handfull of PCs I'd get a switch or two, if you can afford it; they're really not THAT much more than hubs. If you're really strapped for cash there are ways to fund your endeavour: It's not uncommon practice, for example, to charge a nominal fee for the first few parties to raise funds for a switch. Be creative.
