Internet connection sharing doens't work

I have a two computer network and I have a Realtek RTL8139(A/B/C/82301)PCI Fast Ethernet NIC,for both computers.The computers can play games,share files,printers,and CD-ROM's .And I try to add internet connection sharing but it says "the nic is not configured,please installed to nic drivers" ,so how can I get the internet connection to work,I have a proxy but that only supports HTTP,FTP,POP3,and SMTP .
can anybody help me?
Is there a new driver for this nic,if so what is the URL?

ICS is tempermental. You could try removing the NIC from the "system" and reinstalling.

Need more details, e.g. OS, protocols installed on both PCs, internal IP & subnet, etc.

Do yourself a favour and head over to www.winroute.com download WinRoute and you'll be connection sharing in about 5 mins, with no problems.

IIRC 10.0.0.x will work but with a different subnet mask. It's more typical to have 192.168.0.x & 255.255.255.0 for small internal LANs.

NetBUEI, IPX/SPX, TCP/IP? What proxy?

Or using Win98SE ICS with the SE PC as server? But 3rd party ICS can be just as tempermental.

I'm using proxy for www.analogx.com.
All the other ones I have used don't work(but I didn't have time today to get winroute)

So far, the easiest way I have found to network 2 or more computers together is to use win2k as your main computer connected to your connection, put 2 NICs in it, run ICS off of it and it works like a charm, even sets itself up as a DHCP server so all you have to do is connect up another computer to your HUB and it automatically gets an IP address and is ready to go. By far as been the easiest and most effective, even better than win98's ICS was...

Agreed, Win98SE ICS is OK and worked better for me than others but I do wish I had the time to play with Win2K ICS>

That's just the thing though, win2k ICS is nothing to play with, you simply install 2 NIC's in the main computer, click the box to enable ICS and you're done. It'll even add the IP address to the TCP/IP settings for that NIC and you won't even have to reboot...win2k is great in this aspect...

I have two computers, one with two nics, and the other with one. My internet connection is coming through nic #1 on the first computer. Nic #2 is set for ICS and has an IP of 192.168.0.1. I have set up my other computer with a veriaty of configurations in an attempt to get this working. First I tried just setting up the second computer for DHCP, then I tried hardcoding it with ip 192.168.0.2 and a gateway of 192.168.0.1. Eitherway the computers can see each other and transpher files in between each other just fine, but my second computer can't get out on the internet. Both machines are running Win2k. Any ideas? on what could fix this?

My computer said "WindowsME/2000 or better" so I installed Linux.

Please ensure that you enable ICS for the nic that is connected to the internet. The nic that is connected to the LAN should not have ICS enabled.

Also, set everything to "auto." There's no need to be specific.
