Welcome to the forums wickster!
Anyways, my personal reccomendation assumes that you have a burner. If so, get a RIO volt. The shock protection and battery life will blow your mind, and the 3-line lcd works really well. The earbuds sound really nice after you play with the equalizer settings for a while, and the design is great.

Best Hard Drive player: Nomad Jukebox
Best Solid-state: Nomad II
I know they're both from Creative, but they're great. There's only ONE good CD-MP3 player and that's the Pine D'music. From what I heard the Rio Volt skips like crazy, Headphones suck (well, all headphones on MP3 players suck) and it feels like cheap plastic. I dunno about the battery life yet. It's practically the exact opposite of what EnderAndrewWiggin said. However, it's the only CD-MP3 player that updates it's Firmware and one of the few that have an LCD screen beyond 1 line. It's really the only good parts about it...
I highly NOT recommend it.
well i think the napa mp3player is very good
playes cdr cdrw and vcd,s yes vcd,s just test it on me telly down stairs and playes just as well as a stand alone and all for only 80£,and has a biult in recharger and bateries power suply and remote

I love my Rio 500, right now it's very cheap and easy to use. The software sucks, but that can be avoided. It's not a flashy as the Nomad II MG, but i like it. You will get A LOT more room with a Nomad though, just have to pay a tiny bit more, plus they can skip.

I like my Rio Volt a lot, but I've never used any other players. I think the CD-format MP3 players are really nice because you can store up to 700MB of MP3s instead of 128MB on most chip-based players.
Anyway, it was pretty cheap also ($140 from amazon.com). I'm happy with it.

I love the Creative Nomad Jukebox, but if you are on a budget then don't even consider this one, the rio volt is alright i didn't really like it overly much. the Nomad II is pretty good but also not as good as the jukebox IMHO. anyway, tell us what you get man https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/6.gif

Yes, the Nomad II MG is the best, bar none solid state MP3 player, i was just saying that the Rio 500 is better then the plain old Nomad II.

Yah. Nomad II MG all the way.
how is the rio 500 better than the plain nomad 2? the rio doesnt have radio or the backlit lcd. those were the 2 things that sold me to get the nomad 2. should have gotten the MG though!

Uh, the Rio DOES have a backlight, it's blue. I personaly didn't care that it didn't have a radio, i got it for MP3's. I know for some people that can make a difference. I loved the fact that the Rio came with 64mb built in, as opposed to the Nomad which came with a flash card. This allows the Rio to always have a 64mb advantage, that too made a difference to me. On top of that the Rio was 50 dollars less then the Nomad. I think overall it boils down to if one wants a radio.

<--- Rio 600
I like it. It looks cool, the 64MB suffice for me, transfer speeds are good... I use RealJukebox, so it's fairly easy to transfer songs for me... I'm sure there are better ones out there, but the Rio 600/800 is good if you're not overtly conscerned with expandability...

Well for my two cents worth... I got the Rio 800 with 128mb and a built in 9 hour battery. Its real compact which is what I was looking for. I just flew from The US to Australia( about14 hours in the air) and the RIO 800 battery did not let me down. I used it for what seems like the whole flight and it still had 3 hours when I got home. It had enough volume to listen two on a jet so and still hear good bass. That works for me. I am definately buying the FM tuner addon for this baby.
