Golly, why bother with highspeed connect...

The technology just doesn't seem to be ironed out, know? There's people with caps on their speeds, others that have maximum amounts of data transfer, ridiculously low pings, connection difficulties... Is it really even worth looking into getting a fat pipe when things are shaking around so violently? What if I get hooked on a fast connection, then the service goes to hell? The phrase "Better to have loved and lost than never loved at all" is complete bunk as far as I'm concerned. Better to keep my expecations low than be burned!

Just a general rant. Feel feel to counter-rant for or against :)

I don't have a cap or bandwidth limit so I am happy with my service. :)
And if you have a bad experience, you can always go back to 56k. :)

Even on a bad day.... my cable is far better than the best dial-up access I ever had. 99% of the time it performs flawlessly.... so I have no regrets. And there is the added plus of having my kids being able to surf and chat from their own pc's at the same time with no impact on my ability to browse, chat, download, etc....

Why bother with high speed connection?!!??!!?:eek: :eek: :eek: Man surfing with 56k sux not to mention gaming even if your capped at like 700k thats way better than 56K!!! oh and are you talkin about DSL or cable cause the only cap ive had is 15mbps with DSL ,dont know nuttin about Cable tho......oh yea and I have no regrets about gettin DSL :D :D , hehe i do agree with you that once you go Broadband youll never go back.......Willfully at least

They can have my cable modem when they pry it from my rotting corpse.

My internet is capped at 256k. It's still better than 56k.

I don't have a cap at the moment either. I wouldn't really mind a cap though as long as its like 5 gigs or something.. 2 gigs hmm I could manage but I have a business so I might have to get another plan.

Anyways why should I *not* get broadband? This is what connection I have. ;)

i can download 20 songs on average in about 20 minutes, would take me a on month on 56k

frees up the phone line

its about 30 times faster than 56k in speed for a good price

i dont care about caps, i still go fast

I haven't used dialup for several years now. I have bad memories about that period. Dialup modems were horrible, painful devices, and every ISP I had sucked, every one, no matter the price or size of the company. Busy signals, continual hangs, connecting at 33K instead of 56K, and browing at whiplash speeds of 1.2KB/s... an era that I will not miss.

The primary thing that cable/dsl is good for is to have a solid connection that always works. My upload is capped at 128Kbps, and my downloads can only reach 512Kbps on selected days/times. But even if the caps were worse, it would still be better than any dialup.

Yeah, my upload sucks, but my download is good.

love my attbi downstream close to 2mbs

but upstream is @#$#$% slow at around 114kbs

usually with RoadRunner it's fine for downloading but capped up'ld speeds

Yeah, I think I can live with a 2 Mbit cap(approx 250k/s downloads) and a 384 kbps upload cap(about 35 k/s, not like I upload much anyways). Just think of it this way...in the time it takes you to dial in and make a connection I've downloaded 5 megs already.

if you complain about caps...just go back to 56k.

I love my cable (That's not my cable, but is my screen shot) and would pay quite a bit to stop myself going back to the world of below 512/128. On any day the cable will beat a 56k senseless on download speeds, on web browsing i'm usually at 128k speed, which is still twice as fast as a 56k. I'd hate to go to non-broadband connections again... :)

I have had 56k all my life... I live in the suburbs, and only just now is AT&T putting down lines.. and EARTHLINK will be my ISP. Say goodbye to dreams of 100mbps speed. :(

Unlimited use, virtually no connection problems, free phone line.
I think that's enough reasons to pay twice as much each month as I did on dialup 4-6 years ago.

I've been using 56k ever since it came out now and still use it today. I get 200 pings regularly in good CS servers and can still kick some *** (2:1 kill/death ratio on average). But I've been dying to get DSL and its only just now become available in my area. Its been available for 2 months but I heard a lot of horror stories of bad service, failiurse and stuff so I waited for everything to get sorted out. It has all been sorted out now and word has it the cap is at 512k. I'll take that over 56k any friggin day. WERE DO I SIGN?!?! :D

Actually I'm trying to sell the idea of DSL to my dad right now, he's convinced we (as a family) don't need it. :(

I think you're all working at proving my point quite nicely. You're quite attached to high speeds.. now what if your service suddenly stopped? Would you:

A) Go insane
B) Kill someone
D) Take it out on your hardware

I'm not saying that high speeds are BAD, I'd love to be able to download faster :) Just saying why not wait until the technology and more importantly the service has settled out into a range of expected/accepted standards.
