Hi
Every time someone mention Doom 3 the name Carmack is mentioned.
So I wonder who the f**k is he? He did not do the game all by himself so why does not anyone else from the ID Software team get mentioned?
thanks

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure he does ALL of the coding work. And his other little petty slaves do the art and stuff :p But again, I'm probably wrong.
Now we wait for Alientank to explode on this thread as well...

ehhh, im hoping hes reformed after his apology thread :)
I'll believe it when I see it.
Anyway, I also dont see why he's so damn special, he doesnt do ALL the coding, if he did he'd be the biggest masochist on the planet.
John Carmack, part owner of id software, is responsible for MOST of the coding in the engines. Not necessarily everything, the sound engine for Doom 3 is being coded by someone else but most of the ai scripting, and the operations for lighting, shadowing, textures etc, he writes with the aid of a few others. He started on the Doom 3 engine way back before Quake 3 was even shipping out to stores yet. Basically he is the biggest name in game design right now and an all around genius. I'm not going to explode on the thread, check out this one here, I only corrected him, not insulted him, though the temptation was thereQuote:

Anyways, any other questions, feel free to ask.
This is kind of silly, but does anyone know where I can see a pic of this dude???
I am just wondering if he fits my mental image of the dude :)
Man, just look at that face. Pure evil. The good kind of evil though, not Gates evil ;) YOu guys read the article on him in Wired?Quote:
That image is just begging to be photoshopped, if only i had some skill :p. But then AlinTank might be out to get me :D

everything he has done has been defined as being the benchmark standard by which everything else should be compared against.

Basicly, without him we would still be playing sidescrollers. He pioneered the free-look feature by himself.Quote:

Doom 3 may be Carmack's last work with computers, he's now more into Space Aeronautics than anything else now.Quote:
