Some other problem I encountered
Hello there,
Sorry to hear about your problems but it seems like I have them as well.
The floppy disk issue, I think I have it too... the PC simply ignores the floppy until I get to the XP , then I can access it. Strange...
Also, I cannot install Win98se on my drive. I bought the Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 HDD which is ATA133. I do not know whether it is a Asus limitation, or a Win98se limitation, that it does not work with this ATA133 well..., I really do not know what to think.
Have you tried caontacting Asus on this matter?
Thanks,
LIOR

Forget contacting Asus, all I got was a stupid cookie-cutter reply that didn't address any of my questions -- really disappointed with them! If you're trying to use one of the SATA IDE ports for your boot drive you need to set your BIOS "Onboard IDE Operate Mode = Compatibility mode. If not set it to "PATA".
Not sure I understand you..
The HDD I have is not Serial ATA. So how can I connect it to the SATA ports? Is it technically possible to do so? I mean, dont the cables look different? They should not fit into the "wrong" port, i.e. IDE should not fit into the serial port right?
Thanks again,
LIOR

Oops, thought you were trying to use a SATA IDE port with an IDE HD and a PATA to SATA adapter. Anyway, set Compatibility mode and PATA in the BIOS and you're good to go.
Re: Another question OS...
>>Is Hyper Threading implemented in games?? Will it make my games run faster on XP when it is turned on?
I've not heard of any games that have purposely been written to exploit HT, but I'd imagine there will be but don't hold your breathe -- it requires a major re-architecting of the code.
>>If I turn ON the Hyper Threading and change the IDE config to enhanced will Win98se still work stable?
You must run in Compatible mode when running Win98; here's your perfect excuse to move up to WinXP which can exploit HT!

i thought any game that takes advantage of SMP would automatically be able to use HT. so you don't need to redo the code from the ground up if it already supports SMP.

Of course! I had forgotten, and now that you've reminded me, there are a few games that can exploit HT because they were already written to SMP.
