There are a ton of amazing deals. 21" Sony Trinitrons for under $200. Many sellers include a 30 day warranty.
Do you guys think its safe to purchase these monitors or should I spend more than 2x more buying new from newegg?
I have to admit, the prices are very impressive.
Also, I see HP, Compaq, Dell using the trinitron tube. Is it safe going with any of these brands considering many of these monitors listed on ebay are used?

But what's the probability of a monitor breaking after 30 days? It's either going to work or not work the 1st day I get it.

The odds are greatly in your favor that they will not break in the first year. I would even risk my reputation by saying that the odds of you getting at least three years out of them are excellent. However, they probably are refurbs, which is not that bad. Looks like a good deal, if shipping is low enough.

Does anyone know if HP, Compaq, Dell etc. Trinitrons have the same quality as name brand sony??? They use the same tube....

I got my dell p1110 sony trinitron 21" off ebay like 6 months ago for $230. I could have gotten a radeon9700np at that time but I would far more enjoy a larger monitor. The IQ was just amazing over the 19" I had. also the ti4200 ran games excellent :)

They list the Dell P1110 as being rated at 1880 x 1440 @ 85Hz.
The other listing said 1280x1024 @ 85hz. Who should i believe?

They said optimum resolution is 1280x1024 at 85hz, but max resolution at 85hz is 1600x1200.

Whoa whoa.... Now if you want a trinitron and you want to get it off of ebay get a REAL Sony Trinitron, not a Dell, not a compaq, not a sun. And to be honest most of the auctions that come up when you just search for 21" trinitron are crap... The only way to get a good one is to be very anal about it. Search for an exact model. Namel CPD-G500 since that would be the best deal and the are usually easy to get.

DO NOT BUY from these people. Im not speaking of this dealer in particular but this person is selling bad products, its even stated in their discription (if you read the whole thing which Im sure they hope no one does hence why they have all that crap in there). "These monitors are in excellent working condition. They have cosmetic blemishes including screen burns."

That is the only decent one I see and its not even that great. For that price I would not purchase it if I couldnt go physically go look at it.
Now dont get me wrong, I got 3 amazing Trinitrons from Ebay, a CPD-G400, CPD-G500, and a GDM-f500r. Its just you have to be very very careful of who you buy from and what you buy. READ EVERYTHING in the auction. If it is not listed make sure you ask:
1. is it As-Is? IT MUST BE GUARANTEED NOT DOA, do not buy if its not
2. Shipping, can it be picked up? Calculated? (some people charge like 150$ for shipping when it costs them 50$)
3. Condition, brand new? Used? Remanufactured? Any damage what so ever to the screen (screen burns, scratchs, etc).
4. ORIGINAL RECEIPT! That is not a must but worth the monitors weight in gold. Since if you do get it and there are any failures Sony will then replace it if you have that Receipt. On that one auction that was decent I would get it if they had an original receipt or if they are an authorized sony reseller (confirm with sony)
5. Who was the previous owner? A large portion of these were leased to companies and used 24/7. If its not an amazing deal WITH the receipt I wouldnt get one of these
Those are all mandatory info before buying on ebay. Basically for any type of electronics.

I can't say I'd buy a monitor on Ebay, though those Sonys start at $500 shipped on Newegg. Its up to you.
Unfortunately it is with certain products. Namely used monitors. Stuff like brand new sealed stuff you rarely have to worry about. but its always good to be anal just incase someone made an ebay ID just to sell fake stuff that happens to be extremely popular at the time. They are pretty obvious most of the time though. Like you will see a guy with only one feed back where he bought something very small like a pencil then all of a sudden he has 10 auctions up at the same time all for brand new 9800xts....Quote:

Hence the original receipt... The only warranty I really consider is the one from Sony. In terms of "warranty" from the seller all I consider is guaranteed not DOA. If it comes dead you get your money back. If it breaks later you get another one from Sony.Quote:

But I have seen a few auctions that would have been worth it that came with neither. Ive seen a few CPD-G500s go for under 150$ delievered.... These were sold by individuals and were in perfect condition. That Id take

No, they switched sites. I believe it was because of the bad rep they were getting on resellerratings. They used to be a decent site, but the past 6 months they seem to have really gone down hill.Quote:

What are the chances of seeing 21" monitors with original receipts? I think its very slim...
I don't think i'll go for the CPD-G500s. IIRC, their retail price is only $299... and this is for a 21" monitor!
