What do you think? With all of the WWII based games out, don't you think they are wearing the genre thin? We have MOHAA and expansions, CoD, BF1942, H&D2, and others. Hell, even RTCW took place during WWII.

It's getting old, I wish that people would quit with it for a few years and then build something really realistic and really *****en with a new engine. MOHAA was more then enough IMO. I think that something like a really realistic and graphically intensive game based on the civil war would be cool as hell.
Ya, and even make you go through an animatin of the musket reload process, just to make it more realistic.Quote:

I agree. There's plenty of other wars to make a game from.
imo we need more futuristic games...I'm sick of going back in time...I'd rather bomb something with a plasma bomb or something rather than with some old conventional bombs...
I dont think it os overdone, as long as the stories in the games themselves stay interesting. How abut an FPS (first person samurai):D with stealth like splinter cell and doom3/HL2 lighting.
I know, dont quit my day job.
I don't think it's getting totally old, but there does seem to be a lot of WWII titles out right now. But there's just so many themes you can have for a FPS. It's either current, future, or past war based. WWII was so massive, there's just a lot of content to draw from it vs. other wars.
Ya, but you get the same character models, and all of the campaigns have been covered. The US, Bristish, Germans, Russians, Japanese...they've all been done. What more content can you really draw on? Same thing, just a little different map.Quote:

Well the next big thing is going to be Vietnam, so look forward to a bunch of jungles and drugs.
personally, i love learning about WWII and all the history surrounding the events and the actual events. so any game out (as long as it is well made) i enjoy. i really would like to see them come out with a really realistic one. that would be cool.
Exactly, with sci-fi you have unlimited possibilities. Anything you can think of can be used for the game, since it's in the future/sci-fi, you don't have to worry about being limited by history, and things that actually happened.Quote:

you do have a very good point. i say...why don't they come out with lots of both!!! ;) i'm always up for good games from both times (past and future)! ;) either way...as long as there are games to play that are fun...i'll be happy! :DQuote:

I like the WW2 fps games... they're just getting into the realm of vehicles and aircraft in games. To counter your point about Sci-Fi having infinite possibilities, I say this, HL 1&2 is all you need :)
I'm getting so sick and tired of these WWII games and any war based game at all. I like a few of them, but it's like that's the only type of fps that is being released nowadays. We need more shooters like Half-Life, Halo, etc.:)
I don't think they are getting old. It might seem so because the only games that come out are situated during the second world war. Maybe some other ones in other places in history, but history itself has had so many moments and things happening. We just haven't seen any games throughout different stages of history. And that's why I don't think it will ever get old. Of course just as other people mentioned, sci-fi can have much wider possibilities, but still historicly based games are very good in my opinion.
WWII games are fine, but right now most all of the FPS games coming are war based and the bulk of them in WWII. They are all starting to blend together so badly that you can't tell one from the other.Quote:

The developers are trying to milk it for all it's got with different campaigns and new objectives, etc. but overall my interest has waned. How long ago was the first CoD released? When it did I thought it was next best thing since sliced bread but for some reason only days away it's turned into a luck laster title. I'll probably play it though as no other games that are really worthy are out. There's only so many times you can play through Max Payne.
Men of Valor: Vietnam seems like a refreshing idea, however. Why? Because I'm fond of gratiutious profanity in video games. Any game with profane language is almost a guaranteed hit in my books :D
I just installed Hidden and Dangerous 2 last night, granted I'm still on the first mission, but so far it seems like a great game. I personally think that the WWII genre makes for a great batch of games (H&D2 seems to be standing out from the pack though so far). I prefer playing something that actually took place, whether it be completely historically accurate or not, as opposed to playing some spacey futuristic game. Almost all of the WWII games that have come out have been some very great games; MOHAA and it's expansions, Battlefield 1942, H&D2, RtCW, CoD soon.
So as far as I'm concerned, keep em comming, as they make for some great games. I'd still like to see a few more games on Vietnam though.
Grew tired of it after Medal of Honor hit the shelves. After that, it was just the same thing over and over again. I'm tired of killing Nazis :/
It's more fun deleting ICP programs :D
Yes its getting way to old. They find a good genre and wear it out just like radio stations kill a good song and much of the CD by repeating it 15x a day. I personally love the WWII genre and always will (history buff) but I mean this is getting ridiculous when there are 10 WWII titles coming out a year. This is like Star Wars or Star Trek, it ends up not selling.
They seriously need to quit making WWII games in 2004/05 and maybe not even think of it until 2006.
I am stuck on Return To Castle Wolfenstein and Medal of Honor still with all there expansions and freebies. I have yet to dig into BF1942, I only have so much time and so many hands and eyes before I blow out my blood vessels and give myself arthritis.
Yes Ok, in this case I agree, but in general.. well I said it all before. But you are right, WW2 games are blending together badly!Quote:
