Stomped !!!!!!

I don't know quite where to post this.
Well here it goes,I redid my OS and reinstalled everything from the ground up.
Anyway,it came time to install the games and I went by the whole set of MOH including the add ons.In everyone Install Shield Wizard started flawlessly and everything got installed properly.
OK here is the stomper:I went to install MOHPA and it starts up and then I click install.The wizard starts and you see the bar moving along,then it stops one shy of finish and it just sits there.The CD is flawless,no damage at all on it.I thought maybe the cd reader was being an SOB so I went to the DVD reader,same thing.Ok I did this about 20 times,same thing.So I decided to try it on kids comp and it works with no problems!!!!!!!!! What can it be?

Update:Just in case,I decided to try an additional 4 drives that I have and the same thing happens.I suspect there is something wrong within the OS itself.

I've seen something like this happen several times before. I would go to install an app, be it from a CD or a network resource, and the install process would just freeze near the end.

On one occassion it just looked like it froze. Task Manager even said it wasn't responding. But, I left it alone to do its thing for about twenty minutes and it finally did what it was supposed to do.

Not too recently, I tried to install the ZenWorks Desktop Management tool on a workstation here at work and found that it just froze mid-way through. Opened up the Task Manager to find out what the hell was happening and I found several instances of the MSI Installer process there. I just ended the ones that didn't look like they were doing anything and the installation continued.

Then there was this one instance where a developer tool (SAS I believe) wouldn't install no matter what. It would always do the Not Responding bit. Pissed me the hell off. I finally figured out that there was something in the user's profile that was screwing up the install process because it was able to install just fine when I logged into the box with the local admin account. Don't know exactly what the cause of that was...maybe a funny user environment variable or something in their temp directory or something with the registry. Anyways, I didn't feel like investigating further because I finally got it to work. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a rights issue since the user account I had originally tried to install the application under had full admin rights on the box.

Also, back in the older days, killing any other programs like virus scanners, disk defraggers (active and background), or software firewalls would solve a problem like this.

- So I would try looking out for multiple MSInstaller.exe processes and kill all the ones that look like they aren't doing anything.
- Try installing the app under a different user profile.
- Kill off your virus scanner, or any disk defragger, or any software firewalls.
- Finally, leave it be for a while.

If none of that works, look for any errors or abnormal entries in the Event Log when you try to install the game.
Also, check the MOHPA support forums or something. Maybe someone has run into the same problem. Or maybe there's a tech note about some Windows Update that screws up the install process. You know Microsoft...

OK,what I did was install another HDD with the same OS minus SP2 and it booted fine.I tried installing MOHPA and it went through with no problems.
So now that tells me that there is something in this drive(main),that is stopping the install from going through.
The question is:What is it?Could it be Norton Sys works?Or perhaps one of the antispy software I have installed,including MS version?

Did you install all the windows updates and have the latest direct X?

Yes all updates are in,SP2 is in,and I am running DX 9.0c.

How about video and audio driver? Do you have the correct or latest drivers?

Sorry if they are dunmb questions but Just trying to figure this out.

There is no such thing as a dumb question.I am running V 71.89 drivers.Audio is handled by a SB Live card with the latest drivers from Creative.I tried running v 77.72 drivers but they were corrupt or had a bug so I rolled back to 71.89.Game installed fine before,when I had v 66.93 drivers in it.Got them from www.Nvidia.com

Are you trying to install MOHPA from a DVD/CD or just from a download from the net?
If from a DL could you have a bad file?

Is a 4 cd set,and the funny thing is that it runs on kids machine,but not on mine Install Shield Wizard just freezes.I had it installed on this machine before,but the sys crashed and had to redo it and it won't install.

it sounds like it could be one of these last things. try turning off the firewall, and disabling the antispyware apps. i know when i install stuff that puts things in my startup folder, spysweeper gives me a warning immediately. this could be something like that. good luck with it.

I did disable NAV,no good.I could shutdown the 2 firewalls I have,but I don't understand why my kid can install it and I can't.All the other MOH games I have installed fine.

Copy the data from the cds to your hard drive. Then run the Install Wizard.

You mean like copy to the folder Received Files?All 4 cd's?

Update: I did as suggested,I copied all files to HDD,same crap it still sticks at the end of Install Shield.I suspect that something is stopping it,but I have no idea what.Too bad,because I really like MOHPA.

Empty your TEMP / Recent / History /Temp Inet Files folders (run www.ccleaner.com ) if you like -- and find all the Old MSI installers and remove/rename them - I'm not up on XP msi stuff but

I have run Cleansweep from NU and 4 spyware cleaners plus I have emtied the temps,cache,and IE history. :confused:

I'm suspecting the Installer either needs to Validate something through the Inet (but you'd notice this on other installs...no?) - or perhaps Conflicts with previously installed software (mismatched hash keys, md5, or Installed Certificates - or CRC check)

Can you uninstall the other stuff (and reboot) - clear temps (reboot again) - and Install the problem 1 first, before the others?

heck - even try running all the Installers with OUT rebooting in between (if possible)...select NO when Win says "You must resatart now for install to finish" - or whatever

OK let's see if someone can spot the guilty one.
I have SpyBot,AdAwareSE,MS Spyware,Spy Subtract installed.I also have Sys Mechanic 5,NSW Premier,and running MS SP2 firewall,plus Black Ice.The only ones running TSR is NSW AV and Black Ice.AS I said before,all other games that use ISW ran great,and yet it will install on kids comp!

also - I've heard of AdAware and even MS antispyware being a little too lenient on certain MS partners and blocking/catching it like Alexis and Claria and stuff - but not the reverse..though it's possible

Did you try while in Safe Mode? - (though I don't think the 32bit installer will run in safe mode, but worth a shot)

How's about Disabling ALL possible process protections - disconnect from the Web (pull out Ethernet cable from the back of NIC) - and Shutdown all your protections

SP2 installs V 3.1 of installer I think because at looked at updates installed and is listed.as far as the latter steps I'll try it in a while and report back. Thanx

Install does not provide for custom install paths,it does not even display the default one. :( I removed Win installer 3.1 and reloaded from MS site and nothing.Now to make things worse,I somehow lost Auto Play. :mad: :mad: :mad:
