A good friend of mine is a die hard Boston fan. Their owners have been for years one of the cheapest in the game.
Ray Bourque played at below his market price for years while he was there. And the owners would use that against the players in their contract negotiations saying "Well we're only paying Ray Bourque X amount... how in the world can we pay you close to what Bourque makes?" Thus, many players would be unhappy with being pressured into playing for Boston for less money than what they were worth elsewhere.
I don't get the sense that the Sharks are like that... I only say it because it has happened before.
For years, Boston has been one of the top selling franchises (including merchandise) and has been one of the bottom paying teams in the league.
