Nice. Thanks for the heads up.

I got my Roofless Garden Done. its 3 high, 18 long, and 8 wide. I have 2/3rd for trees and 1/2 for grain. Theres a 3 by 3 running moat that keeps monsters away. Its pretty neat.
I was going to make an enclosed unit, but since I'm growing trees, it made more since to make a wall of glass. It's workign real well and some of my trees have gotten f-ing huge!
My next project is a 20 by 10 dig sit. I marked off the area by creating a 3 staggered wall to keep creeps out and sunlight in. I then covered the top with glass and I'm placing torches as I dig out each layer. As I come across new tunnels, I mark them off with glass blocks for later exploration. I'm also building a set of stairs that runs the entire length of the dig sight and downward.
You should practice strafing while shooting arrows at skels. Once you get good at it, they fall pretty easily. Plus after the fight, you can grab any arrows that missed your target.
I use a different tactic when exploring way the hell further than I meant to... and am carrying a ton of stuff and can't afford to die. If a skeleton pops out near me then, what I'll do is throw up 2 units of dirt right in front of me, then build that out both left and right. It happens often enough that when I hear that bow twang near me, I hit the dirt hotkey and start throwing down blocks within about half a second. Easy to pick them off with the sword then as they jump around outside the makeshift wall.
So they've found ways to import CAD models into the game using plugins. All kind of crazy is being unleashed.
How do you recover arrows stuck in dirt? I think I tried all my tools but still the arrow just drops to the next block.
Yeah I was hoping I could also recover skeleton arrows. Oh well.
Started a new world last night. Started a smelting factory to make glass cubes. (I didn't previously realize that you could leave your furnace and it would continue to work.) Made a glass house in the side/top of a cliff next to the spawn point. Then I started working on my new goal. Make a single stair case 4 blocks wide from the top of the ground all the way to the bottom level. Sure it's tedious and pointless and silly goal, but it's my world, and I want a giant staircase!

*Edit: Pic is from this morning. I'm only about 1/3rd of the way done. It might have been a mistake to want to keep the ceiling height a constant, and then slowly dig down the stairs. I'm running out of torches constantly.
*Edit 2: Two more shots from this morning. Made some decent headway. I'm about halfway down now. Each layer is obviously going faster than the last. I can probably finish it up tonight if I can find enough coal for torches.

I bought the game this weekend. :)
Questions/notes:
1. I tried to get some lava in my bucket, but I never figured out how. Is there a certain block you need to get? Do you actually need to step into it to scoop it up? (I did manage to get water in the bucket, but that is...safer.)
1a. You can get out of the lava with health left, but you are still on fire afterwards for quite awhile, so you may still die. If you die close to the lava, when your stuff scatters, some of it might still go into the lava and burn up (ask me how I know :().
1b. I managed to completely extinguish the one lava flow I had, by dumping sand on it, thinking maybe I could make a safe spot/redirecting it so I could get it in the bucket. When I removed all the sand, all the lava was gone and the little cave was dark.
2. What's the best strategy for dealing with creepers? I don't mind dying as long as I'm not lost (especially after I finally figured out about storage chests on the 3rd day of playing :p), but I hate the explosions taking out my hard work. I built a "moat" to trap foes...zombies and spiders will burn up in the daytime, and I can take out the spiders at my leisure, but the creepers don't burn and are dangerous to get near enough to kill (maybe I need bow/arrow?).
I love how that little ugly hole-in-the-wall you build on the first day suddenly feels like a secure fortress on the first night.
You need to take lava from a source block - i.e. one that isn't flowing. Definitely don't step into it. :p
If lava sets you on fire, the only way to save yourself is to jump into some water. You might want to keep a bucket of water on you when exploring for this reason - just dump it on the ground somewhere and jump in it.
If you lay blocks like sand/dirt/stone into a lava source block, it will cut the flow into adjacent tiles, which will eventually self-extinguish.
In my experience so far, creepers suck. No matter what you do, eventually one's going to nail you with little warning. The best thing to do is to always wear armor when you're out someplace that you might find one. I collected enough diamond block to make a full set of armor from it, and that has really saved my ***... mostly from creepers and falling damage. I'm working on a castle right now and am constantly falling off the edge of its walls, lol...
1. You just have to scoop the lava in the bucket. At least, that's what I did. It might be block specific, I know that once you have "scooped" the source water block, all other water coming from it disappears, and you can't scoop any of the created water blocks from it. (I created a fountain to test this).
2. Creepers (at least one at a time) you can smack with a sword, then back off, then smack with a sword, etc. It's dangerous, and probably easier to use snowballs/bow&arrow, but yeah. It can be done.
I kind of want to build either a water or lava moat around my new home. I don't like the idea of any baddies getting near my glass walls. :)
*Edit: Follow up question: Once you sacrifice your bucket+lava to a forge, is that forge permanently powered?
