And I've never been particularly impressed with Rhodes.
rhodes isn't great but he is good to spell jordan, jordan pretty much blows but it could be their horrid line too...i'm not sure LT could get 1000 yards behind that POS.
next, they will sign ricky williams and get quincy carter to throw the ball
Rhodes is pretty good.
Yea... Rhodes is a decent backup.Quote:

I think that it is the line.Quote:

Jordan had good numbers as a backup on the Jets. And the Raiders may have one of the worst lines that I've ever seen.
LOL!Quote:

That would be horrid.
Actually... I take that back... Williams is a good back... he just can't stay away from the pipe.
Jordan, like many part time backs who had very limited cariies, had an excellent yard per carry. However, once the carries went up to that of a full time back, that number dropped considerably. You can not look at yards per carry when a guy has never had considerable carries and use it to judge how good a back is.Quote:

However... keep in mind that on the Raiders with a ridiculously bad O-line he still got 3.8 yards per carry fulltime. Any other team, and I bet he's up past 4.
And at least in his 1st season with the Raiders, he ran for over 1,000 and only played 14 games. And he also caught passes for over 500 yards to boot. Pretty decent season all things considering.

I though the saem thing may have happened to Westbrook, but he has managed to keep his yards per carry very high as the amount of carries increased. He does have a much better line though. He is following the exact same career path as Tiki Barber, and thats fine with me :-). I do think he may end up being even a little better though, as he may be the best pure receiver as a RB since Marshal Faulk.
You also cannot look at how a back does behind that terrible line in Oakland and use it to judge how good he is imo.Quote:

Oakland signs Donovan Darius from the Jags.... probably one of the biggest FA defenders, it's cool but he's been oft injured and he's 32... plus we have michael huff, so wt?
A good pickup I think... as long as the Raiders don't overpay for him (which they usually do).Quote:

The other aspect of this is that he can be a mentor for Huff (who I'm STILL pissed at the Raiders for taking over Leinhart).
Probably not their most pressing need, but a good pickup I think.
I think they plan to have the three safties interrchangable and sub a lot to keep them fresh and to keep the offense guessing. That is my hope. Or maybe a cobra type d with all 3 safties on the field.
Multiple WR sets are more common now than ever... even on 1st down.Quote:

Funny thing is that just a few short years ago they were in the Superbowl.
They had a VERY good team.
Unfortunately, the team was also very old. A few injuries, an awful coach (whom I think both Jerry Rice and Tim Brown... both very classy players... accused of deliberately sabotaging the team), poor management, and aging players have imploded that good team.
They are a shell of their former selves. And I have my doubts that they will rebound this season.
(have they even BEGUN to address fixing their O-Line?)
they got the guy from the 9ers, newberry or something to play on the line, moved gallery....not much, their line blows.
It was a dynasty, especially in the 70's and 80's. They were almost always in the play offs. They won big during prime time. They were in the 2nd superbowl. They had a incedable record during the late 60's, 70's and the early 80's. But since the Jeff George days, the only bright spot was the Gruden/Gannon era. I have high hopes for the new coach, but they are still a work in progress. Next season, we should be more of a contender.

They actually made it to the AFC Championship game one year. Got blown out by the Bills (their 2nd trip... they were a powerhouse... and Bo Jackson's career ended the game before) something like 54-3.
That Raiders team was actually pretty good.
I thought we were talking about currently, not 15+ years ago.:p
But yes, Oakland has enjoyed success in the past.
Unlike Arizona and Detroit. :pQuote:
