The lava moat was what I was gonna try until I ended up losing half my gear (pre-learning-of-chests) just trying to get it into the bucket.Quote:

The minecraft wiki says lava powers a furnace for 100 uses, and then also destroys the bucket as well...
any gold hunting tips? ive been playing over a week solid and yet to find any gold.. seen tons of lava and iron and monster spawns

I feel a bit better, but not entirely.
According to this thread, when lanterns are introduced, any and all torches already placed will be transformed into lanterns.
