The signing bonus does count towards the cap, they just prorate it over a few years. It doesn't go away, it's just rearranged. The way I understand it is basically this -Quote:

So, if they just gave him the roster bonus, it would be a massive hit this year, but nothing for the next few. Hard to crawl out of a hole like that, though, so they resigned him and prorated it.
As for my "in other news...," Pac-Man Jones is a total idiot. Actual details are slim at this point, but the story going around is that he went to a strip club in Vegas with a glad bag full of dollar bills and started throwing them on the stage (apparently called "making it rain"). Some stripper accidentally broke the "making it rain" protocol or something, maybe some strippers started arguing, no one is sure exactly, but allegedly Jones went up on stage and grabbed one by the hair and started smashing her head on the stage. Bouncer comes in and restrains him, his girlfriend hits the bouncer on the head with a champagne bottle, Jones bites the bouncer on the ankle and takes some flesh with him, beats up the stripper some more, and eventually the whole club is evacuated. Pac-Man tells the bouncer that he's going to kill him, and what do you know, 20 minutes later a guy Pac-Man was with (allegedly) shoots a couple of the bouncers.
Nothing is proven yet, and they keep saying that Jones is not a suspect, etc., etc., and if half the rumors are true he would have ended up in prison before he ever got out of Vegas. But how many times do you have to "just be in the wrong place at the wrong time" to establish a pattern that it's not just coincidence? They do apparently have video evidence of some sort, I think from a security camera, so the truth should be out there eventually (on youtube, no doubt. :D )
