Culpepper has had little time to learn the offense. I'd be more patient with him.
Also... from what I've read, his decision making has been somewhat erratic (which I would chalk up to not knowing the offense yet) but his mobility looks to be back 100% from what I've heard. And this is huge for him in every way that I think that it is for McNabb.
I wouldn't pass judgement on Culpepper so quick.
And if Russell doesn't sign soon... I think that his season will be a lost cause. If there is any one position for a rookie that is essential to be there the first day... it would be QB.
The Raiders should have kept Moss, drafted Calvin Johnson, picked up a few offensive lineman, and went with either McNown, Culpepper, or Walters.
And I think that their biggest mistake was not drafting Leinhart last year.
I disagree Leinart's throw power is average and his accuracy is slightly better than average... he is just smarter than most.
Moss wouldn't stay, the raiders wouldn't go after big names to help the team (cough lakers cough) win and he wanted to run the routes he wanted when he wanted to... like he told freddy biletnikoff after blowing a route "I didn't want to run on the dirt part of the infield" didn't want to? that's fantastic... we should have asked you first, sorry Sir Moss.
Hard to say if they should have taken Johnson... they may have been able to trade out of the #1 spot, get Johnson at 2 and parlay their move into a draft pick and a lineman and then went with David Carr, McNown or C-Pep....but the lions said they were steadfast in taking Johnson regardless so why would they trade up?
Andrew Walter is a good QB, he just needs time to throw....he has a huge arm, he didn't pass John Elway on the Pac-10 all time TD list cause he sucks
Hmmm... that reminds me of Joe Montana.Quote:

"Smart" is the single biggest asset that a QB can have in my opinion. And unfortunately, it's not measureable.
Strong arm, accuracy, and scrambling are all nice... but I think that they are luxuries more than anything.
And I think that Leinhart's accuracy is better than what you think that it is.
Yea. I agree. An amazing talent with all the attitude.Quote:

If only the Raiders could get him to buy into the system. I can't help but think that a lot of Moss's unhappiness was due to losing. If that changed would he be a better team player?
I say they should have taken Johnson because he is about the closest thing to a "sure thing" that there is in rookies. There were some decent QBs available on the market. And they seem to be pretty high on Walters (as you indicated).Quote:

Rookie QBs are the biggest risks. Most do not pan out. I'd have to guess something like 10% meet expectations. I would have rather gotten a proven commodity via free agency or trade.
David Carr is also an intriguing prospect. I think that Houston was a situation that no QB could have succeeded under. Maybe Carr can ressurect his career elsewhere.
I think the problem with rookie QB's is that they often get drafted top 5 by the usual toilet-dwellers. From there, they are expected to learn and adapt too quickly for such a complicated position. Not to mention that the surrounding team has already proven to be sub-par. Too much pressure, and they usually just crack.Quote:

Yeah well I'm holding my breath on that one, but there is no way in hell the Raiders can do as bad as last year again.Quote:

Russell wants a big chunk of his "Guaranteed" money to be an option bonus, so if he quits the day after signing the contract the $ is his no matter what... basically he wants the option of retiring with double digit millions guaranteed at anytime, or atleast thats the way it sounds.
No rookie has gotten an option bonus this year out of all the people drafted... he is being a bit unrealistic, he should switch agents and get this done - he might have a chance of playing by week 8 or 10.... rumours are floating that he is doing just that. Getting the #1 signed is a big deal for an agent, I have never heard of the guys working with Russell... where's Rosenhaus, the Poston Brothers? Tom Condon? Jimmy Sexton?
Or Johnny Cochrane?Quote:

some places say he has been offerd a $60mill contract with $30 in guarantees, but russell and/or his agents want the guarantees to be guaranteed NO MATTER WHAT...injury, holdout, he sucks, cut, retires tomorrow.Quote:
2. Your sources are sauces - trying to add a taste to something that is something altogether different. Al Davis has spoken that it's the option bonus. End of story. The last word you'd ever trust is that of a snake-oil maverick agent trying to cement the deal of a lifetime.
In fact, Metz has not once made a public statement, yet is obviously happy to spread around all this disinformation and lies to various journalists purely to besmirch the good reputation of Al Davis.
All of the first round draft picks that have signed have done so without option bonuses. It's simply a matter of 2+2+2 here given this fact, given what Al has said is the problem, and the continued holdout of Russell.
Al Davis has had an impeccable history with signings, and an impeccable history with being generous in the money he offers. He's not a tight-***. He's gotten everyone else drafted signed this year bar Russell. That would indicate that the problem is Russell and Metz, not Al and the Raiders negotiators.
At what point does a journalist like yourself actually stop and think things thru before allowing tripe to pass thru with some sort of official stamp of 'fact'? You should be ashamed of yourself.
LOL -
guess that moves drunkakowski to the #2 kicker cause sapp has better range and accuracy!Quote:
Players were given extra time off between practices after defensive tackle Warren Sapp kicked a 45-yard field goal. He celebrated by jumping in the end zone to slap the goal post. ... Saturday's game will be televised live on Channels 2 and 5.
edit: more on sapp's field goal -
lol, a career life long field goal kicker had to have a warm up? old and tired defensive end warren sapp kicks one 10 yards less than what the field goal expert was asked to do? janikowski sucks, end of story....I'm so tired of that guy, polish cannon my ***Quote:
– Kiffin called off practice early and wanted to award the team a longer break in between practices. He was counting on Warren Sapp and Josh McCown to kick 25-yard field goals with the team watching. Both missed.
So Kiffin turned to rookie Mario Henderson, from 15 yards. He missed. Kiffin wanted Sebastian Janikowski to kick a 55-yarder to earn the time off, but Rod Martin nixed the idea because Janikowski wasn't sufficiently warmed up.
Warren Sapp finally delivered with a 45-yard, straight-on field goal attempt which barely cleared the upright.
Gruden sure likes older QBs. Garcia can scramble and is smart. You might have a good year. I was sorry to hear about Alstott. He is a baddass.
I've heard Russel and the Raiders are still very far apart. Not good news. I've heard that the option bonus is the hang up.

Oh well, if he doesn't sign or doesn't work out we will always have Vick in 2009 or 2010, the nation is always ready to sign the next f'up... pacman will welcome him to our team with open arms.Quote:
