I opened the case and it was pretty clean, but it runs much cooler with the case open. People now tell me this model Vaio is one of Sony's worst laptops for heat.Quote:

sorry to hear about all your troubles lone! :( so are you back down to only one comp?
No, I just got so fustrated with it, losing so many WU`s when they were about to be completed.:( I`m giving it another try, hope it holds up this time.Quote:

I was until I saw, how long it would take my 1600+ to do a 683(50 hours) , so right now I`m on a 256, that will take around 25 hours. It should be finished by around 8 pm tonight. I have make some ajustments to the system, that I hope will help. I have everything but a hard drive and a case to get another computer, up and running, right now I`m trying to figure how to set it up without a hard drive and get it folding.Quote:

Edited: as I shut down my 1600+, computer, I am still puzzled as to what is causing it to freeze, running it at stock speeds, the temps under load in the low 30`s, the power supply rails rock steady, ran memtest on memory and no errors, have tried all F@H programs, even the new 4.0, downloaded new cores, made no differance. Ran all the tests on my hard drive passed everyone of them, Yet this morning, all it would do is freeze and freeze again. I thought it could be the OS(win98SE) so I reformated the hard drive and reinstalled it, samething. the only programs loaded on the hard drive is the modem drivers, the folding program, Ad-aware6, AVG antivirus(which I do not have running in the background), display drivers and zone alarm. So if someone can come up with a reason for it to do this, please let me know.
[rant] VIA sucks....NIX sucks.....Cheap mainboards suck....By the time I get this stack built I will have pulled out all of my hair :mad:[/rant]
The TH7 II is dead. Died in the box sometime in the last two years.
One power supply is DOA or 40 seconds after I plugged it in. PC chips cheap a$$ mainboards are a pain in the butt. I did get one up and running, I hope to copy the drive and set the other four up off of it.
I am really leaning towards adding disks and running windows on them, diskless NIX is a never ending string of crashes.

OK, I've had enough of this nix stuff. I've got half an egg crate of 40gig WD's outin the shop, so I guess I can spare a few of them for folding. Set one of the XP3000 up with one and it seems to fold well. It's doing a p1039 in 6min50 a step, so call it 7. Thats about 2 units a day, or a little over 100 points a day. Times five is 500 plus the >300 I do now is >800 a day. When I find a replacement for my TH7, and get this FX51 off its dead a$$, I might make a 1000 a day. BTW, I think I have figured out how to make the FX fold faster. More on that tomorrow.
Thermo, what's the problem with the FX51??? You would think it would be a natural folder!
Anyone have a early work unit end, where the log file says that gromacs can not continue further and it sent in what work I had completed about a hours worth, core status 72(114). I have done 94 WU`s on my main rig without a problem now this. Was this caused by a bad WU or what and is there a place that lists what these core status things mean. Update I got 3 points for the work that it turned in.:)
It just does not fold well, I think it has to do with it being adapted for 32bit apps. Never have gotten SSE to work on it, but that is a problem with some other apps as well. There is a new bios on the way that is reported to help the SSE problem. And 64bit XP might be ready in a few months. For now I am going to drop back to an old bata, I'm told that the -forceasm tag will invoke SSE. I've got another SATA drive to put in and I want to set up a bootable SATA stripe set. So I'll do it all at once.Quote:

Thanks for the reply Thermo. I'm happy with my Barton chips. Gonna wait 6 mos for the 64 bit chips to mature before I make a run at them.:)
i have a older laptop that isnt connected to my network, and isnt connected to the internet, is there anyway i could have this thing folding/? and just send the data it finds through a different computer?
