you mean the difference between the 3.24 and 3.25, or between the 3.xx and 4.0 client?

if it's between the 3.24 and 3.25, there should be theoretically NO difference, because they use the same processing core. in real life however, there may be differences due to the fact that the 3.24 will only SOMETIMES use SSE on work units that can have SSE instructions run on them (gromacs units), even with the -forceasm flag....that's the main reason there is a 3.25 version, as it will always allow SSE to be run on capable work units....

the difference between the 3.xx client and 4.0 client is likely to be none, again, because it's just the client (the interface) that's different, it's still the same core doing the actual processing power.

Hi, Question about system stability with Windows XPSP1. I have a ATI 9200 video card at 1.7V, can it handle that? The video card has a small fan and the case temps are right around 30C. I don't play games on it just movies.

I had some instability problems folding and doing anything video related, this was when the video voltage was at 1.5V. When I bumped it to 1.6V life was good again I could watch a DVD no problem and have it folding in the background. Well, the computer just rebooted doing some very simple surfing over a modem and so I bumped the Vcore to 1.575 and the video to 1.7V. System temps don't seem to be affected 43C CPU temp.

Can good quality hardware run 24/7 for years? I just don't want to be too suprised a year from now. Thanks, Mark

I have two XP's that both behave identically so I think it's kind of representive for XP's in general. When 3.24 is used, together with the -forceasm command, the XP's start with "extra SSE-boost OK" when the client is started. However, when the machine is left alone and picks up a new package it will start with "extra 3DNow boost OK". When you shut down and restart the client it will proceed with SSE boost. Difference on package I was working on at that moment: 50%! 6 min per percent on SSE and 12 on 3DNow. It will depend on the package but I'm not sure about the speeddifference on the other XP at that moment cause I didn't check :eek: 4.00beta used with the -forceSSE command uses SSE regardles of clientrestart or 'unattended' restart. Both my XP's run 4.00 and speed has increased significantly.

that is one of the problems with the 3.24 client. even with the -forceasm tag, it will not always use SSE boost. that is the reason why most people are using the 3.25 beta, because with the tag, it uses the SSE boost all of the time, not just some of the time.

I just realized... I have a computer with an XP 2100+ (I don't remember the chip type) that's just sitting around... all it needs is an ethernet card and a hard drive and it could fold. I might try to get it running soon.
