Tbird... you do realise that technology evolves exponentially?

The gap between generations of hardware is growing. So differences in requirements for computer software, and the hardware available to run that software, is shifting at a rapid rate.

I just hope you actually see what a 9800Pro (or equivalently good video card) can do in real life.. becuase at the moment you are being blatantly ignorant of the facts presented to you.

There is no point posting screens of games to you becuase you fob them off as being equivalent to that DX8 GPU you love so much. You ignore the fact that the difference between high details and 80fps is FAR superior to the medium details and 30 - 40 fps you run. That also includes the fact you get ZERO DX9 support (which Far Cry uses extensively)

For goodness sakes, get a grip on reality.

(btw, I don't care that you love the card so much, that's great. It's the fact that you have this wall in your mind that blocks out the fact that it is NOT as good as other cards available in this day and age. As for your BFYB - Bang for your Bucks - argument, it is void considering the Ti4200 doesn't have even half the 'bang' a 9800Pro does and is still rather pricey - in Aus anyway.)

I wont get the full dx9 features since my card doesnt support it on a hardware level, but I have yet to find anyone proving me any differences, if you can, please show me two screens and point out the differences. maybe in aus ti4200s are way overpriced, but here they are not! I at no point claim my ti4200 is equal to a 9800p, its about 2/3 as good. colossus gets 30fps while I get 15, but he also has a faster cpu as well. what do get, Vizer in 1600x1200 all details maxed? and I do run "very high" details in 1024x768!

Tbird... the reason you have not seen any proof of your Ti4200 lacking in detail is because you choose to ignore the link to opstars screens. I would post a pic of his screen with parts that your card renders poorly pointed out but that would be senseless as I would have to circle the whole screenshot!

A decent ti4200 is still around $250. 9600XT under $300 and 9800Pro around $600 AUD.

I had a leadtek ti4200 8x and a powercolor 9600XT here for awhile and played around a bit. I'd pay $50 more for the 9600XT. And that says a lot comming from me :)

and he won't believe me when I tell him he could hit 20k EASY with a 9800 pro. if you vmodded and tinkered and twinked and fiddled with that card as much as your beloved ti, we'd be talking even more than 20k! especially with that uber value ram you got that does 250, right? *cough

T-birdy, here's some benches for you to look at:

As you can see, the Ti4200 is about 2x slower than the 9800 pro (in the games that aren't capped) - and that's with 1024x768 max details. Crank that up to 1600x1200 and the difference just grows. And you better not even try to use AA/AF on a Ti card, whereas with a radeon 9800 pro you can go up to 4x/4x without much of a performance hit.

I think that if you could turn on AA/AF, you would. The graphics are so much nicer with AA/AF on. :)

No. He'd never turn on AA or AF. He loves the more realistic feel of extremely jagged lines.
This is pointless. TBird refuses to accept that high quality on a directX8 card is different to that on a directX9 card when in a game inmplementing DX9 features. HL2 will be playable on a geforce2, in fact it will play on a TNT, because it scales itself. I remember seeing a table somewhere of which features would be available at which GPU level.
If YOU feel there is no noticable difference then cool. You're set then. The fact is though there IS a difference. Either that or the directx9 features are a myth. Is that what you're saying. That you don't believe in directx9. It's all a big lie?????

I can not speak for dx9 but id like someone to show me the difference with screenshots in games. I believe the 9800p is twice the speed of a ti4200 but I still have no need for insanely high fps which my eye can not see. farcry runs fine at 1024x768 all details maxed and ut2004 does at 1600x1200 maxed out! about 40fps in both cases. oh and I set my fsb to 133, got 16fps in farcry. set fsb to 200 and my fps jumped to 24. talk about a linear scale, cause im gaining in both fsb and cpu and this just proves me how cpu intensive games are!

Well, considering I have tweaked the game so that it will reflect everything off the water (rather than the sky) the trees never turn into sprites and many other LOD settings I get 17fps at 1600x1200 (that's about average... although, I'm more inclined to say 20fps... especially when you get into the jungle.

I'm going to uninstall and reinstall the Far Cry demo to get rid of all the tweaks I made to the game.

Also, I don't overclock the Vid Card. If I do, then I will gain a bit there too.

GB_Cobber - got my 9800P for $550. There are some that are down around the $480 mark now. Ti4200's are in the mid to high 200's.

You can't distinguish the difference between 35fps and 60? wow...

im going back to that game, its very smooth and enjoyable at 20-30fps with 32 bots running around! im not complaining, its not blocky nor hard to aim! anything 30+ is 100% smooth

I now average 35 - 45. Still no overclock on the card... with a console AF command, full detail on everything...

However, I would not run this game at 1600. 1280 is very nice though (45+ fps on high detail)

Sorry, 32bots? In Far Cry? or have you suddenly switched games to UT2k4?

if so, I'm easily getting 70+ at 1280 with full AF. Also, if you find 30fps a smooth framerate then you are certainly no First Person gamer... fact.

I'd love to see Tbird in a reality show.:D

Without AA and AF your game is gonna be playable with those game but soon as you turn those 2 things on your not gonna be able to play. I you like looking a jagged edges be my guest. Someone post SS for him please b/c my parts have not come or elese id show him the diffrence bettween 9800pro and his card.
