well dangit. used to be in the top 25...now i'm in the top 45. dangit. and i still won't be able to get back to my computer for another couple of days...oh well. such is life. great to see the team doing so well! congratulations all around for spot number 75 and passing up chicagogamers!! :)
sounds like some wierd stuff has been going on with the tinkers, gromacs, etc. has it seemed to be ironed out yet? or still wierd things happening? just curious.
I don`t know of anything weird going on, but they have come out with some new gromacs, that take almost as long as a tinker to fold.Quote:

when i said "wierd" i was referring to all the people getting the tinkers even with -advmethods. was this determined to be a server thing? and i've heard about those new gromacs. look like killers.Quote:

Yes, I believe that was a server thing or they just needed to get some tinkers done. I got a tinker on each of my computers, but have only got gromacs afterwards.Quote:

Well, I have come to the decision that Nix is not up to folding 24/7, at least not with VIA chip sets. I thought it might be a cheap board/Via problem, but a little test disproved this. I put Windows on one of the 3000+’s and set it to auto reboot every 48 hours, and left Redhat on the other four and set them to reboot every 24 hours. The box with 2K/AS on it is still running, the other four are on but not accepting connections. Strange thing is that I have a 2.4 Northwood on an 850 Intel board with Redhat. It is set to reboot every 48 hours and has been running fine for a few weeks now. Soon as I can pick up 4 Windows licences, I think I'll can the Redhat on the 3000+'s.
Also, they seem to be force feeding us some special work units the last week or so. I found two of them that had gone into a loop, and the log just showed repeated entries that said “working” although no progress was being made on them.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I seem to recall some of you saying that you were about to kick Sapasion out of the top 10. What's the hold up? You guys taking it easy on him or something?
i had that same problem a week or so ago, with that hanging at the "working" screen. i deleted the core and that fixed it. most of my other problems with linux have been because of using the windows client through the wine program, where my system became unstable or had some problem with the wine installation after upgrading to the 2.6.x kernel, which caused a lot of WUs to get dropped in succession (i've probably got the highest point to WU ratio of any sharky folder :p). that hanging problem was after going to 2.6.0, also, come to think of it.Quote:

otherwise, i haven't really had any trouble folding on linux, except for getting more tinkers a few months ago because the gromacs for linux ran out (which is why i started using wine). but that situation seems to be resolved now, and i haven't gotten a tinker since. what kernel version are you running, and which version of folding? i've been using the linux 4.00 client for about 2-3 weeks -- no problems. i have a nf2 mobo, however, so it's possible it's a VIA chipset problem. and i suppose it could have something to do with red hat, too, it's really hard to say. you should try another distro before concluding it's a general linux problem, it might just be red hat specific. but if you find windows just works better for your hardware, i would say definitely go with that, if you don't mind shelling out for the licenses. :D (personally, i would GET it to work on linux rather than do that. :p but that's just me. :D)
I have some XP licenses, but I would like to hold on to them. I’ll hit the flea market and try to pick up some junk with 2k on it.
I don’t recall the kernel ver. off the top of my head, but 2.6something rings a bell. I use the 3.25 folding client on all of my AMD boxes.

I have a Slackware box crunching here and I havent rebooted it for the last 4 months!
No good reason. More of a memory flush than anything else.

Oh you ment the nix boxes. The servers are all 2K or 2Kas. I reboot the nix boxes to make sure I can VNC in. After folding for a few days they will refuse connections. I can do it by hand, but after 9 hours of LAN hell and 150 miles of traffic, I just don't always feel like messing with them at night
Understandable.. There are days that I come home from a client that I dont even want to hear a cpu fan spinning! The sight of my home office would make me sick...
But that is an odd problem...
I am not a detective but I think someone is helping Saps. What do you think Thermo? A quick check of whos production dropped when Saps increased would yield a list of who might be helping him. To bad I don't have time to check it out.Quote:
