my cpu tops out at 2.44ghz, and i'll be getting pc4200 ram, so vdimm mod might not be needed. the radeon is really holding me back (with 500/400, i'd be unstoppable) so i think i will just have to muster up some courage and take my chances.

if I can get 230MHz, then I will pose a threat to xDUCK ;) on AIR COOLING!!!
my new toy will be here friday, maybe thursday ;)

Congrats eshbach. :D
Hmmm, is it one of the 533 fsb Prescotts? That might make sense then.:DQuote:

I dont know about the Prescott... I find it odd that the release of the chip is cheaper then its older brother... That I find odd.. Its not a standard Intel pattern...
No its a 800Mhz FSB Prescott...Quote:

just found out that it's already in newark where it was picked it ... (New Jersey), maybe it will be here tomorrow? (New York City).
Newegg has a warehouse so close? weird ...
EDIT: you didn't say anything :-\
and there's a surprise coming, too ... but AFTER the new toy ;) (about a week or 2 later)

G'luck with that slavik
Esch -- you'd prob be better off doing a vdimm mod and running tight timings rather then loose ones, even if you manage to kill off the board the price of pc4200 ram isn't that much different
I dont think going higher then PC3500 is worth it.. The extremely loose timing does more harm then good.. Yes it looks better on Sandra but does little to nothing for benchmarking...Quote:

You are better off with the vdimm mod and pushing that PC3000 or PC3200 to a higher rating... Then going to CL2.5 or CL3.0...
suuuure guys... trust me on this one. if timings hurt so much why did i just break 24k on cl2.5??? it's all about FSB on these A64 boards, and since it's not actually MY corsair, i can't v-mod that.
let's get an IRC channel going :-\
*EVERYBODY* knows that 5:4 2-2-2-5 is faster than 1:1 3-4-4-8. Don't be stupid, if you buy the PC4xxx, you'll regret it later.:(Quote:

EEEEW IRC!!! Yuck!!!!Quote:

Your not modding the memory, but the board :D
Yes you got 241xx with CL2.5 but I bet if you ran at 2-2-2-5 with some added vdimm at the same clock speed... You would easily have 245xxx :)
Slavik... Whatever you're planning, I wish you luck. But as I said, it will likely be a challenge, unless you have one FINE barton...
my ram doesn't like dividers. and the point is to run 270 1:1 with a 9 multi... i really think that would help. i had a thread about this over at xtreme and the impression i came away with was that ocz pc4200 would give me 3-3-3-7 at 270+ (which is fine, because the only timing that matters on A64 boards, according to Macci, is ras:cas, and i'm already at 3 on that).Quote:

And you don't think 270 1:1 2-2-2-5 would be faster (and cheaper)?! ;)Quote:

oh, i'm not arguing that, but what bh-5 will do 270 2-2-2-5 without major voltage?Quote:

None. :p But pump 3.6v through KHX3200 and you'll have your 270 2-2-2-5.Quote:

didn't i see a post from you called "will 3.5v hurt my RAM?"... you're worried about giving your stuff 3.5, so you tell me to give it 3.6?? i can get the 4200 for $138, the bh-5 is not that much cheaper, i don't have to worry about frying this stuff, and i can run it 24/7 at 270fsb...Quote:

If you want to pump frying voltage through the memory.. Make sure to have a very good cooling solution like a decent sized fan blowing directly on it...Quote:

I posted that over 2 months ago, just as I was making my run for the nForce2 FSB record. Since then I have given both my KHX3200 and Corsair TwinX3200LL 3.7v and they've both lived to tell the tale... I run 3.4v 24/7... I'm telling you from personal experience, RAM is very hardy! Just make sure you have *decent* airflow around it, since it will get warm without it at these voltages.Quote:

And btw, if you check out the replies to that thread, you will see a thread full of people who agree with me. ;)
I have to say I am with the rest of the group on this one. BH5 memory is going to crush PC4200. Not only do you get crappy timings with that stuff, but you also have about a 505 chance of it even hitting its rated speed. The pulled the PC4000 out of mine was doing 265 1/1 and 284 5/4 and my video card running at 515/400 and the best I got was 23.5K. I just threw in the mushkin black PC3500 and I jumped up to 23.9 on a video card clocked at 495/370. By my estimation the BH5 with the higher clocks would give me 24.5, that's a 1000 point difference on ram timings alone.
i also see replies that say things like "Yes, 3.5v WILL hurt your RAM."
i'm getting the pc4200, i can always throw voltage at that if i want to. i don't know how hynix chips react, but i've seen people put up some HUGE numbers with 4200 and right now i just need FSB.
yes, but the A64 boards don't respond to RAM timings like intel boards do. all that matter is ras:cas.Quote:

hey good luck to you :D we are all couch quarterbacks at this point and time anyway. I was just doing a side by side comparision with your score and I can see your CPU definently is showing some muscle. Your lobby scores are what really put a hurting to me. In car I lose slightly and I beat you in dragon and nature. I really need my video card to put up some large numbers if want a chance to beat you, cause I am not going to be able to touch those lobby scores :(
