Eli will likely not put up peyton-like numbers during the reg season, it's just not him. Especially playing in the meadowlands. I don't remember what it is exactly, but it's somethign like he's the only QB to ever lead a drive to win the SB in the last min of a game. For me, what he did this season gives him a pass to do whatever for the rest of his career. His ability to take over when the game is on the line is much more important than putting up big numbers during the season. I know I got down on him mid season, obviously I was completely wrong.

Don't be surprised when the media dumps on the giants immediately at the first sign of anythign less than perfection (specifically bspn). It only happens every year. They rarely side with the giants.

A lot of people on the giants board think that the they should get rid of shockey because of him pressuring eli to get him the ball and boss coming up so big when shockey went down. I think that with the giants winning the superbowl eli and even the rooks can put him in his place. I think that a twin te set with both of them would be pretty great.

anyway, I'm still enjoying the superbowl win.

I agree. Hes never put up great numbers. The reason they wont the SB was because the whole team played well and didnt make alot of mistakes. Eli player better during the playoffs, but still not great.

But he made the throws when they needed them and the defense played great every game. I doubt he'll every be one of the top QBs in the league, and Im still never gonna take him in my fantasy league.

I don't think that Eli will ever be confused with Joe Montana... but all the people wo labelled him a "bust" or said that he'd never lead the Giants to the promised land... well... they're eating crow. Even if they don't fess up.

Eli gets the same pass every other QB gets: a complete and total forgiveness of his past sins right up to the point when he starts committing them again. His first four-pick game people will start talking about how that catch by Tyree owed more to Tyree being great (and, of course, completely underrated) and nothing to do with Manning ("All I'm saying is that, if he threw the ball where it should've been, Tyree wouldn't HAVE to make that catch..."). That's the NFL. Clevelanders are pissed because Derek Anderson (who led the Browns to a 10-6 record, a huge step forward from the year before) had two bad games: the Cincy game that kept us out of the playoffs and an embarassing Pro Bowl stint. That's right; we're mad about the Pro Bowl (if you saw him play, you kind of understand this).

Eli Manning's got ability, but he's got to stay at something close to the pace he was at at the end of the year to get a pass for a whole season.

Rogers is an absolute force in the middle. He can decimate double teams, stuff the run, and rush the passer. Very athletic. Huge. Oh! and man can he block field goals. Amazing.

However, he was very lazy here in Detroit. It seemed like when he wanted to he was one of the best DTs in the league if not the best. Then he would just disappear. Also he is hugely over weight, which has caused lots of problems with his knees (couple of surgeries etc.) and stamina.

Its always said, if someone can get through to him or whatever he'll probably be the best in the league. That never happened here.

I don't know if Millen outsmarted Savage, but the Cleveland deal is SO much better than the Cinci deal that got canceled. I'm very glad it went down this way instead of a 3rd and 5th rounder from Cinci.

I'm just happy he didn't go to Cincy, where we'd have to deal with him. Here, I think we can motivate him (although that might just be ego); if not, I think we can at least make him a decent nose tackle (340 lbs. in the middle is great in a 3-4 even when it isn't an athletic 340 lbs.).

I'm sad to see Bodden go, but looking over his last few seasons he's never quite lived up to potential. He's had recurring hamstring issues that'll need to be addressed (both in '06 and '07 he missed time due to these injuries that he'd rush back from; as a result, he'd never quite play up to his potential.

It's weird that you'd go after a guy of his caliber, though, since you're running a Cover-2/Tampa-2 defense that typically doesn't place a lot of emphasis on the corners.

It might be; they already had some decent tight ends, though, so I'm not sure it'd be as big a deal as, say, Crumpler to Carolina.

I doubt it; I think he's just done. Moss wouldn't have made them a Super Bowl team, I don't think.

They never really had a weakness at receiver this season, though; sure, Moss might've helped, but I don't think he'd have gotten them over the hump. Defense lost them the game against the Giants (defense and a terrible pick by Favre); unless Moss would've replaced Al Harris in that game, I don't see him making an impact there.

I don't think Moss would've made the difference in last year's results. I doubt Favre would retire because of another player.

hmkay, apparently Seattle has signed Julius Jones. We now have:

Shaun Alexander, but could be cut very soon:eek:

all on the squad at RB.:confused:

Hey Rabid, I don't know Julius well but can you say something to assuage my confusion? I know Barber is better but what do you think of the guy?

This draft looks to have plenty of good rb's, and even if Alexander is cut I'm not sure why we brought him aboard.

Jones is a decent rb who can give you 1,000 yards. Nothing special, he's better than morris and duckett, and alexander as of late.

To be fair, its been one injury after another for Alexander, for two seasons now. I don't think he's played even one game where he wasn't hurt. This goes back to his Madden cover appearance, of course.;)

It will be nice if Jones can contribute, but what I was really hoping for was a trade-up to take Jonathan Stewart. So much for that fantasy, I guess.

Since they have a legit starter in jones they can give him most of the carries, and give alexander a light load so that he can heal if he's not fully ready to go by the time the season starts. Otherwise they have a good backup if alexander goes down.

All I can say is that I am glad he is gone, I loved it when Barber would be in the game because of the electric things he can do. Jones doesn't have that, he has seemed boring on his runs, rarely breaking a big one, and blaming his lack of success on "coach cramping my style".

Julius Jones is being brought in to replace Alexander, not as an insurance policy. In 2008, Jones is getting $5.5 million in guaranteed cash, and they just signed T.J. Duckett to a $4 million guaranteed deal; Alexander's due to make $4.475 million this year. All things considered, the writing's on the wall for Alexander at this point; you don't pay two guys that much money to maintain the status quo at the position.

The interesting thing about Seattle's backfield is that they'll have three of the better "other guys" in the NFL; Jones, Duckett, and Morris all played second fiddle pretty well for awhile. It's gonna be running back by committee up there, with Jones getting starts and other guys being rotated in depending on their individual strengths and weaknesses.
