Vick should also be suspended for a year from the NFL in addition to any court imposed sentence, do not run them concurrently...that's BS... he HAS to do time so he will of course be missing the NFL season, that's no punishment from the league... the NFL should suspend him for a year following his release, otherwise he does a jail sentence then comes back on the field like nothing happened and the NFL looks like a dumba.s.s.

he will do FEDERAL time, meaning a federal joint (which is leaps and bounds better than a state prison) and he will be sequestered from all other inmates... plus I think he is still making like $7 million this year while sitting in a cell, while this is not super mega easy it could be a lot worse... it's just unfortunate for him he wasn't under the custody and control of the LA sheriff's dept, he would be home sipping margaritas.

I agree the suspension should be separate from time in prison. This is a golden opportunity for the league to demonstrate that it won't be putting up with this 'thug life' BS from any who want to play in it.

Well if he's convicted of racketeering/gambling as well, that's enough for the NFL to suspend him indefinitely. I'm sure he had this in mind when he did his plea bargain. Personally I think he's done.

I think that he's out for a few years at least.

And I think that the NFL will tack on a suspension.

Vick is the epitome of a running QB... not even mentioning the rust of having not played for a few years, his running skills will probably be diminished.

I think that even *if* he makes it back to the NFL... it'll only be as a backup QB at best.

Stick a fork in him... he's done.

I am no Eagles fan, but I really liked Trotter.

And yea... it seems like him and him alone shored up the Eagles run D that year.

I really like the way that he would run up and blow up the Center sometimes... disrupting the whole running play and causing utter chaos on the play.

I was excited when Washington got him, but they didn't use him well to his abilities.

Sad thing is, even with greatly diminished skills someone will give him a contract as soon as he's available. His name is enough to generate higher ticket sales.

Then he'll just be waived after he flops.

Washington tried to use him as a conventional middle linebacker, and had him in pass coverage on way too much. He pretty much really sucked in pass coverage, the Saints absolutely embarrassed him in the playoff game this year. After halftime they just used every TE on there roster to attack him in the passing game. That was the beginning of the end for him. The first couple pre season games he looked real slow, and with all the NFC east teams having really good receiving TE's, he is too much of a liability.

I hope he retires and can be remembered as a very good, disruptive, pro bowl linebacker. If he keeps playing he may not walk past the age of 55.

possibly, but remember, we are a people who are QUICK to forgive and forget... think of all the high profile people who have been busted, the public has pretty much forgiven them and moved on and if vick serves atleast a year, admits he did what he did and suffers the consequence I think everyone will welcome him back with open arms as a changed man....thats just how it is, unless he molested and killed kids he has a near 100% chance of reviving his career, perhaps not as a starting QB but whatever.

if GWB can be forgiven and re-elected, mike vick can come back and play again... America is always ready to give someone a second chance....or a third or 9th....we just don't formulate an opinion and stick to it, we all flip flop too easily and this case will be no different! we can't remember what happened last week let alone last year, the public just forgets, end of story.

edit: he will still be hounded by the extreme PETA wacks and such, but everyone else would have moved on with the "he did his time, let's forgive" attitude.

But the Eagles wouldn't even keep him on their roster for obvious running downs?

Quite a while back, I remember Washington had Matt Millen (yea... that long ago) on their roster just for that specific purpose.

Trotter wasn't making much at all was he? Like... they should have been able to afford him just for that purpose no? I think that he was a premier run stopper... he had over 100 tackles again last year.

I wouldn't mind one of the teams that I cheer fo taking him just for that specific purpose.

I agree that the days of him being used as a fulltime LB are over... and that Washington obviously didn't play him to his strengths.

As for Vick... the public will forgive quite a bit. There is a lot of tolerance.

However... something that is so revolting such as dog fighting... with Vick allegedly invloved in executing them... I don't know that will be forgiven.

Omar Gaither took his spot and look like he may be very good, and we drafted Stewart Bradley who has looked extremely talanted even playing with the 1st stringers. And since Trotter is to slow to really be effective on special teams it seeems to be a waste of a roster spot. I think the Eagles are trying to get younger on defense as a whole. We have a ton of young linebackers that we really need to keep on the roster to fill special team roles and just to get some playing time. Philly has been very good at is knowing when to cut a veteran player.

Also...we pretty much sucked against the run last year, i think they just wanted to make some big changes. Dropping walker and Trotter, adding Spikes and Ian Scott(run stuffer), and starting some younger linebackers. Also making Bunkley a starter at tackle, who was very disappointing his rookie year, but has been stellar in camp and preseason. He had like 25 tackles for a loss his senior year at FSU.
