No offense, But a A64 now would be silly :) With a new socket right around teh corner.. Also not having a locking PCI bus is rather stupid...

I dont think I would notice the frame rate difference in games.. But I feel a P4 at 4.00Ghz would be faster then a A64 at 2.3Ghz :)

i knew you wouldn't go for it, but i had to try :) A64 at 2.3 is faster than a 4.0 P4C for 3DMark, so i'm guessing it would have an edge in games too, but as you say, it wouldn't be noticable. Then again, would the difference between 3.8ghz and 4.0ghz be noticable (and worth over $500?)

theres no way ill ever get bh5 ram to 275fsb. 250 maybe if I push nearly 4 volts thru it and watercool the ram :o I sold my mushkin that only did 220fsb at 3.25v, at less volts it wouldnt even do that. im getting corsair value pc3200 thatll oc better but might not do the tightest timings, but its a tradeoff and I save $$$$$$. Once I get an a64 rig 18 months from now, there will be ddr2 ram, ill just have to run async but ill be way over 20k either way with my ti4200, what will another 1000 marks matter? :D

Yes and No.. It depends on the game :)

Some games a 3.2c vs a 3200+ A64 is only a handlful of frames faster :)

So no you really wont notice the difference :) Or atleast not as much :)

if you want high FSB at loose timings (which i don't understand) why not just get some pc4200 or something...? it's cheap stuff, you can get geil pc4200 cas3 512mb for about $130... cheaper than most bh-5... but for a reason. you of all people should know that AMD systems thrive on low latencies (especially when you go to A64). I think you should just get a different set of mushkin L2's as mine did 254Mhz on 3.2v, 2-2-2-5.

The AN50R? easy as pie, i did it with a clip (courtesy Mikead99) then i killed my board/chip (heh) and that really sucked. the vmod isn't really at fault for that though, i changed voltage through the bios and that apparently causes spikes. i wish i would have known that. So its the basic... Drop the BIOS vmem down to the lowest and then adjust it all on the trimmer?

Also did you have to adjust your 3.3v rail? Since the mem runs off that rail.. The max it would be able to supply is 3.3v or whatever the difference is on whatever power supply you used :D

The AN50R is diff in that it supplies it through the 5v, so can have unlimited vdimm (well, more or less) ;)

eshbach, I was thinking of giving mushkin another try, but the prices are just crazy, I could get cheap ram plus a 9800 pro for the same price and that would probably get me 18k. 17k for sure though even with cheap ram, a 9800 pro can propell me to 17k. I still dont know whats the deal with bh5 ram not doing much past stock, but $70 is getting me a 512mb stick of corsair value. I know amd thrieves on timings, but I think I can tighten those timings anyway

if you want cheap get some buffallo tech and it will at least be ch-5, which should do around 230 on 2.90v.

a 9800pro in a 2.4ghz system with a moderate overclock on the card should put you over 19k and most likely over 20k... but a 9800pro is still $220 and you can get 512mb of Mushkin L2 3500 for $160, so your statement about getting cheap RAM and a 9800pro for the price of bh-5 is totally wrong.

I just got my Mach I a few weeks ago, been putting a couple of P4c's through it, just to play. I would guarantee it gets that extra 10 MHz. Typically I'm getting 15 - 20 MHz more outa them at default volts, haven't pushed any to the top yet, but I'm getting real close to their air top with default vcore now. My 3.2C runs 100% stable at it's old max benchable o/c (not real stable) with 1.625 vcore.

BTW, you don't need to drop to 5:4 to keep tight timings at 250 MHz. The '01 score in my sig is at 1:1, 2-2-2-5, GAT: T-A-A-A. :D That's Prime/Folding stable with the vcore I mentioned, VDimm at 3.4V though. A 260 MHz run with 5:4 same timings lagged that by about 300 points or so. Sooner or later I'll either push it further or decide I'm done for now and post that for the Team page.

Colossus, get the Mach I. Prices are as low as they are going to get, that's why I had to do it. Well, that and to quiet my pc down, but you can do that for a lot cheaper. The only real differences between an MI and MII are the GUI microcontroller interface, the price, and the fact that you have to buy an LCD display for the MII if you want one. The temps on the MII evap show lower, but CPU temp differences aren't any more then 5C, 10C tops but I doubt even that much. Most temp reports I've seen posted by MII owners are real close to what I see with the MI, some higher some lower. Gotta jump now if you are going to do it though. I got mine out of the second to last MI shipment from nVentive and from what I've heard the last is shipped. Get it from Kit-tronics though. $460 shipped, just expect a customs broker bill for around $30 to follow shortly from UPS.
