I love D2 as well but BG2 is so much more of a game......D2 however is frigging addicting so you could say I love both!

My problems with D2. (Didnt get lod)
1. The AI is a joke. Monsters will run in a straight line towards you. Unless they use bows or need to walk around a wall. Since the path finding is also weak, you will frequently see them running into a wall continuously. Great for firewalls tho.
2. Graphics kinda stink. Maybe LOD's 800X600 fixes this. But the graphics are just too repetitive for my tastes. The random dungeon thing probably has a lot to do with it.
3. Skill tree structure hinders variety. By common belief, the best strategy is to focus on a few skills and bring them to high level. Most people get just a few tactics and use em over and over. Some argue that this allows you to customize your character to how you want to play. I think the word restrict fits better than customize however.
4. Annoying inventory. You just don't have that much space. And collecting gems and all the other junk can be a real pain in the ***.
5. Not much to it. You will see how the game plays with-in the first 30 seconds and it never changes. While this isn't really that big of a deal, I think some imagination would have gone a long way. Especially in multiplayer.
6. Its still a click fest with the mellee characters. Click-click-click till your wrist explodes.
Its still a fun game tho... I play it when I am the phone at work. I just don't understand how people get so into it.

Totaly go with Baldurs Gate 2:Shadow of Amn
the res is no longer locked to 640X480 as it was in BG1 (although they weren't bad at all)
Its a MASSIVE world, using around 5 CDs of data, you can enter almost 3/5 of all buildings, there are around 4 sizable quests for you to do in each section of the world (around 18 i think) and a good deal of smaller quests in the world.
When i compair Baldures Gate 2 and Diablo 2 i don't raelly see how Diablo 2 can be called a RPG, it has almost no plot, no characterization of the evil guy, no characterization of anyone you know, no intersting quests, and its mostly a click on the moster guys until they die
It uses advanced Dungeons and Dragons system which is based on the roll of a dice, its really nice that way becaue if you came across a really big enemy if you fight him around 5 times there is a good chance you'll get some good rolls and be able to kill 'im and not be stuck at that boss for a darn long time, or have to back out and lvl up (unless your really low lvl)
I spent around 4 hours a day for 2 weeks playing that game, THE best game i've played yet
