How much would you be willing to pay for a shareware adventure game?

I don't agree at all. These are great games and they still sell. I'm glad the developers are still reaping the rewards of these games. Hopefully it will act as an incentive for the production of more games of this caliber.

I disagree with you.

Are movies free? Nope. Not even old movies you catch on TV. The channels pay for them movies and you pay the cable company. Is TV free? Nope. Should games be free? Nope.

Well, movies don't get outdated. Games do. Thats why old games should be free. People still buy old movies. Nobody buys old games because a) they are outdated, b) they dont look as good as the new ones, c) they may not work on new hardware and software.

I'd pay about $7 for a new downloadable adventure game. $10 if it was really good. Also, I generally don't like paying more than $20 for a retail boxed game unless I really really want to play it bad.

d. older games (especially for old computer systems) are nearly impossible to find! How are you ever going to get, say, Galactic Warrior Rats for the Amiga? Its: 1. Impossible to find in any store, 2. Extremely difficult to find on the net, and 3. was hard to find even when the Amiga was new!

Is it still illegal to download this game eventhough its become almost impossible to get?

Any game that is no longer sold in most stores should be free!

I think $10-$15 is optimal. It's enough money that I don't mind paying with a credit card ($5 isn't enough) and not so much that it really hurts one way or the other.

Ok, shareware doesn't have to be free (but isn't it usually? I see free downloads/demos advertised as 'shareware' much more often than as 'freeware'). However, why would anyone pay for trial versions of software?

almost all shareware i've come across are time-limited/functionally-limited demo software. i have never associated shareware with free. maybe if u downloaded things from decent sites you'd know. the good software sites like winfiles.com (now gone) download.com tucows.com treat shareware and freeware seperately.

It is this attitude that leads to only big companies making software and then you have to pay $50 for POS overpriced software. Someday you'll have to pay Micro$oft a monthly fee just to use your computer.

Yeah dighn. Most people started putting out time-limited demos because not many users honoured the shareware system. So now you get a time-limited demo and the concept of shareware is dying.
