Well yes its a no brainer but I'm a low end consumer of CPU's. I mean I'm not trying to decode the human genome and I don't game all that much. I use my comp for home office, and some fun. So I don't need leading edge technology. Celerons/ Durons are what I really look into, well okay I'm looking into Northwoods too recently because of the 50% overclock potential but I'm not building another system for another 9 months or more, so I have the luxury of time to see how the hammer/ t-bred/ p4 133fsb unfolds. ;)

Not for the first generation of hammer. I've got no reason to expect any smoother transition to the hammer arcitecture than AMD and Intel have had with previous transitions, and since 95% of the time the first generations of things have short lived sockets/limited upgrade paths, I'll wait and see how it goes. Why everyone thinks it's gonna be smooth sailing is beyond me, when history dictates it to be just the opposite.

the P4 is a 768, but we just dont call it that anymore, like we called the old chips 486.

Because numbers aren't trademarkable, which meant that AMD and Cyrix could make processors with the same name as intel(they did this with the 80386, and the 486). Going to "Pentium" allowed them to trademark the name and stop the other chip makers from making "Pentium"s.

I dont think they would change it again because of the resession and everything, and people just started to buy P4's to replace there P3/P2 so changing the name would be kinda stupid. But hell I dont care Im still gunna get it if its called Pentium 5 XP 5000+ ahahahahah

I seriously hope that they aren't going to call it the Pentium 5, because everybody will shorten it to P5, and that'll get confused with the old P5 cores of yesteryear, unless people really do have THAT short a memory.

<edit> For a new name, intel should call it something like the scepter, because sept = 7 IIRC, and it can be a cool play on words, and a scepter was used by kings, so it gives an image of power. Yea! And AMD is quickly becoming pure evil for getting rid of the 4 mounting holes in their specifications :mad:. </edit>

uh, i don't know many people outside of techland that called any proc the P5. so not much confusion should arise. who talks about the original P5 anymore anyway?
