Is it my eyes playing tricks on me or are the channels curved where they enter the holes?
Here's my mk2 block on my XP1700
Using a fly cutter to make the block flat
Using an edge finder
Allows me to use the DRO to find the exact center of the block
Waterblock, channels .375" wide X .375" deep. .5" holes
I'm not exactly sure what you mean. As far as I know, everything on the block is completely square unless the mill wandered a little.
<Edit> What is your waterblock made of jubjub? It looks different than copper or aluminum, but it may just be the picture.</Edit>

Nice job Zack :) This project should cool your CPU rather nicely, because no one that I've seen has made a water block out of such a large sized heatsink. Good Luck :)

My block is plain ole 6061-T6 1/2" thick
I think it's just the yellow lighting reflecting off the block and making it appear yellowish
this 6061? sounds like fun
Okay, I got IIS running on my computer so I won't exceed my transfer limit on tripod. Nothing has been said about the >3Gb uploads I do on my cable modem so I assume it shoud hold up as long as my IP doesn't change (Even though its dynamic, my router does a pretty good job of keeping the same one for months). http://67.83.8.116/default.html
I'm just a bit worried about the excessively small passages, being 3.4mm deep and 1/4 wide, they may be too small.Quote:

<Edit> Just finished the brass outlets on the water block and it was a pain. I had to get them to come out the side of the side though the fins so I can still have the fan, but have virtually no clearance for wrenches or even two right angle fittings. I had to put them at different heights just so I have clearance to screw them in. I just have to get my acetylene torce and solder them up for good. I'd have pics up, but my new WinXP installation refuses to recognize my USB enabled CF card.</Edit>
If this were a regular water block without any fins or any type of heatsink on it or built out of, yes you may worry about that. However since you do have a massice heatsink as a water block the surface area of it should make up for the small passages. Good Luck :)Quote:

I had to chisel out a LOT of fins to put the fittings in. The pictures don't reflect the latest modifications so you don't see how few are left. I have probably 1/3 of the total fins that I started with, and those are just around the edges. Since the cooling system is all copper and brass though, the fittings should make up for the fins they displace.
Yea probably so. 6061 is probably the most common Al. and it's dirt cheap. Machines like a dream. I really like working with Fortal Al Alloy. Just as light at 6061, machines easier than 6061, yet is stronger than 1020 mild steel. Wonderful for making car parts.Quote:

Almost any kind of aluminum is a dream to work with as long as you keep it from gumming up your tools.
I am currently working on a titanium pen. I already hade a brass model of it. The only work I have been able to do on the titanium stock is have the shaft turned down and angle cut on the end. I am not sure what alloy it is, but the word that describes machining this stuff shows up as as little *** so I won't even bother saying it. I now have a whole pile of melted drill bits. I guess I'll have to order some carbide bits from Travers for this job.
Okay, new pics are up on my ip address. Included are finished water input and output fittings that clear the capacitors on the 8KHA+ and a complete mock up with fan and shroud.
