First of all, let me inform you that I'm a big XBOX supporter (even though I don't own one), and I think it's the best console out there.Quote:

That one this year is Sony, which, according to NPD sales figures, has sold 1.4 million PS2s this season despite the splashy launches of GameCube and Xbox. Since PlayStation 2 has a bigger brand awareness and more supplies on store shelves, its leadership position matches pretty much everyone's predictions. However, Microsoft isn't far behind, with approximately 934,000 Xbox consoles sold through by early December, and projections to hit 1.5 million by year's end. Despite having the lowest-priced console of the bunch, Nintendo is trailing in terms of units sold, with 615,000 GameCubes. Nintendo, too, will likely spike to between 1.1 million and 1.3 million units sold by the end of the year."

NPD is the company that did the research.
*sigh* Now that I got that off my chest, let me state that the stats provided in the article are crap because they are out of date. I mean, without any up-to-date stats, only God knows which console is selling better. Who knows, maybe GameCube caught up with XBOX because it's much cheaper, and there are more kids who play video games than adults!
Regardless, it is games that make a console or break it, and currently the PS2 has an edge on that. I'm just sad that not many interesting games are released on the XBOX lately (I mean who the hell cares about games like Superman  ), so its attraction is dying down while PS2's popularity is growing rapidly in the market.
If the XBOX had been out just 6 months earlier, it would have demolished the PS2 because back then there weren't any high quality programming tools for the PS2, and companies used to suffer a lot to roll out a game. This has now changed however. Many PS2 programming engines and tools are available, and it's almost as easy to program on the PS2 as on the XBOX.
