Its not just ATI.....
When I owned my Matrox G200 I had to use an OpenGL wrapper to play Q2 based games.
When I owned my Matrox G400 I had to wait for three driver releases before their OGL ICD was good enough for Quake 3.
When I owned my 3Dfx voodoo 4 I had issues with Madden NFL 2002 in Windows 2000.
When I owned my 3D Prophet II I had issues with No One Lives for ever game text. I had issues with tearing in Quake 3. I had to run two different driver sets in order to get X game to work.
When I owned my Radeon SDR. The only game I had issues with was Grand Theft Auto 3, well, everyone has issues with it.
Now that I own 8500 and using Catalyst Drivers along with Rage3D Tweak (disabling Fog Table) my problems with GTA3 has gone away and I can honestly say that I have no other issues with any other game I have.
What is my point? Every video card has its quirks, not just ATI.

I am not a 3Dmarks 2xxxx kinda person. I don't care what FPS you get in what game. I only care about consistancy and quality. If I play a game and it runs at a constant 50fps and looks oustanding then I am happy. Smoothness will always outway max FPS. God knows how bad a game is if you spike at 120 then drop to 30 every three seconds......

Every Nvidia card I have ever owned worked perfect in every game under any os exactly as it was advertised to do, I can’t say the same thing about any ATI cards.
As for performance look here http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1583&p=12 The geforce3 beats the 8500 and the Ti200 is almost as fast.
Who do you think you are goin off sayin my statement is BS! you must be a moron if you can't set up your ATI card right, I use all 3 companys and i know what the hell i'm looking for and i hear how you people say ATI don't play games right and how they the crash all the time and how theres a problem with some operating systems and drivers but i think thats BS! cause the people that are having the problems don't know what the hell there doing! i havent had 1 problem with my ATI card its as stable as my voodoo i played every game i have with my 8500 and didn't have 1 problem with it these game were from 1998 to now, my Geforce junk cards i had played games like crap, gave out **** scores (its sad my voodoo3 beat my geforce2 GTS ans scored 1200 points lee than my Geforce3) and other things that go on and its not because on me thats making the card act like **** i even had someone reformat and install my card and drivers just to make sure i didn't screw up on somthing and he had the same problems and that person knew what he was doing because hes got like 5 geforce cards from geforce2 mx to geforce 4 mx 440, So don't listen to these morons say how crappy ATI cards are they just don't want to have a new company come in and be the King, man to bad 3dfx aint around anymore.

Secound 3Dmark means **** in real-life benchmarks
third the geforce3 is much better then the 8500 in everything except 3Dmark
If all you do is run 3Dmark and play with your ding dong all day then the 8500 is the best card for you, If you plan on playing anything you desire at a faster speed with no problems then the Geforce3 is best.

anyways in closeing 3DFX is gone and they sucked **** anyway and I can't say much more for ATI.
