Well, If we were all rich I guess no one would care about throwing out an 8500 just cause the new one is out.. unfortunately most people don't have that kind of money. So hopefully Ati will continue to work on the drivers for the 8500 otherwise it could leave a bitter taste in some peoples mouth of they drop support for it already..Quote:

From what I read it was the Direct X driver that was completely re-written so it isn't exactly "from scratch" as OpenGL seems to be unified.Quote:

No I was talking about R9500, but no I'd still get a R9500 over the Ti4600 cause it'd have DX9 support and Ti4600 doesn't. And I'm sure even the R9500 would trounce the Ti4600 anyways. Just pure speculation right now.Quote:

When the NV30 comes out and beats the R300 (assumming it does), couldn't the samething be said about people who bought the R300? Not that it matters anyway, the R300 will be plenty fast still when the NV30 comes out, just like the ti4600 is still still a fast card now.

So they don't use the same Drivers..
But there's a big difference; in the past a new card would edge out the older card by just a little bit. This new card from ATI isn't just edging out the Ti4600, it is smashing it to little pieces. It's taking benchmarks made for Nvidia products by nvidia and doubling the scores of the highest end nvidia card.Quote:

Oh I'm pretty sure they did, just a sec, I'll look it up. Basically the R9500 would be a R9700 with slower clock speeds and 4 instead of 8 pipelines, which could severely limit performance, compared to the R9700.Quote:

dBLISS, it's more significant because it's ATI smashing Nvidia's benchmarks, not Nvidia improving upon their own product.
with the given timeframe, now i expect the NV30 to top the 9700, and ATI will be working to counter the NV30.

But the GF4s were how many *generations* ahead? 2, well actually, more like 3, GF3s, GF3 Ti, then GF4 Ti. The R300 is a full 1 generation ahead of the GF4s. Very good execution by ATi to pull this one off, especially with the not so bad drivers.Quote:
