You could always get a job at one of those places where you write sentances that go in enlgish workbooks for small children to correct ;) .Quote:

I have 256, no absolute need for 512.
nm, this isnt even worth it
I had 1k of memory on my Sinclair Spectrum.....
Yes, but you didnt use a memory leak (aka a M$ OS) back then ;)
..but would you perform tricks on street corners?;)Quote:

Ok, i would draw the line at somewhere around there :p
Games are getting to the point where they are getting to need 512MB for full enjoyment.
Medal of Honor, Soldier of Fortune 2, Morrowind, etc..
Sooner or later your going to get a new game that's going to play noticeably better with 512MB.
I might get another stick of 256MB tomorrow. Sometimes Morrowind takes excessively long to load levels.
Jedi Knight 2 is a little ram hungry. I play with 256 @ 1600*1200 and get a few hicups as it has to access the HD.
Morrowind needs alot of memory, more then 256 i'd say. Also your gonna need more than 256mb for upcoming games like UT2003 and even more for Doom III. Currently there are only a couple games that need more than 256 and most are proably because of poor programing (eg. memory leaks or ineffecient game engine.)
256k aint enough for me.
If u get a 3d desktop you will see huge diffrence in performance with 512 or more.
I had media player-skin mode
Desktop x
windowchange
trillian
and a few ie on my comp, it would go dead and i have a 2.26@2720 when i had 256, when i got another 512 stick, i changed my draws.
Also i noticed a huge imporvement in games.
mohaa stop stuttering.
warcraft3 just felt better.
sof2 was playable at very high image quility.
gta 3 well you just got to see for your self
Its something that once you try it, you wont go back.
This is a result of your hard drive subsystem, which is one of the slowest systems in your computer. Should get another HD and run a Raid will get a minimum of 10% improvement in hard drive performance.Quote:

BC
EverQuest expansion requires more than 256mb of memory to run ALL character textures. I would suspect to that SWG is going to require 512mb for all eye candy on too.

I have 756 megs of ram.... and I down graded with some betas I am doing. failures to load and lock ups etc.
The amount of ram is gonna get rougher with the newer games. I am doing a beta test on 3 games and one chokes at 256 ( I didnt bother with 128after that) and at 384 stuttered like crazy... at 512 it ran smoothly.. the same goes for the other 2, at 384 mbs runs ok but lower boom.... also forget the 3dfx and older ati cards with 32 mbs of vid ram.. blahhh.
I'd love to know what games you are running that only begin to run smooth at 512mb ram. holy god, are you playing at 1600x1200?
