my 9700 is ready !
Oh yeah, Carmack has said that DooMIII incorporates all of the TECHNOLOGY that first came out with the geforce 256. That means that a geforce 256 will be able to run the game, but in a very limited fashion. What we need from the newer cards is their polygon pushing power. NOT their fabulous new features such as Vertex and Pixel shaders. DooMIII will need the NV30 and R9700 for their SPEED. NOT for their fab and groovy stuff. That is why I said that essentially, DooMIII will need these cards to obtain really good framerates with all details set on high.
I've upgraded my cpu, graphics card, memory, motherboard and monitor within the last year. I'm done for awhile.
I am however anticipating that the release of Doom III will mark the day I begin overclocking stuff. :)
I dont understand why people think that just because it has "doom" in the name makes it an automatically good game. I thought the original UT was great, but UT2k3 is complete junk.
Yeah I have a really fast computer right now that I KNOW will run DOOM on high resolutions and high details. But just because I have the hardware to run it, and have played doom since the DOS days doesn't mean I'll fork over the money for it. Just like any other game I'll download the demo, read some reviews then judge.
Then again most people are suckers and will do anything for a name. Take alienware and falcon nw for example :D
GOD (see J.C.) has not made a bad game yet.
He has a great track record thus far, its not even fair brining epic into the conversation for comparision because UT has always sucked and UT2k3 is just great looking suckage
I reckon gill get a new cpu and the best graphics card at the time, I dont think the redeon 9700 can handle doom 3real well.
Well if a Radeon 9700 Pro cant handle DOOM, then that doesn't say much for the millions that have worse video cards. Besides even if the game were that graphics intense, they wouldn't get a lot of sales because a great majority of people dont want to spend $300 on a video card to play one game.
Not a smart move for JC if he did that.
I'd say a 9700 will be just fine. No doubt we will be expecting the 9700's upgrade by the time DooM III comes out. Most likely some kind of DDR II solution.
I've never liked either of the Unreal Tournament games. UT2003 really isn't worth the full price they slapped on it. I got it for the editor. But the game is just cold rehash with same ole same ole maps that really aren't anything special at all. But WAIT! This is a DooM III thread..... WHOOPS!
my rig will run it but probably not above 1024x768
I hope to sell it and build a new one by then though
If i can play it at 800x600 normal detail, i'll be happy. Anything after that is bragging rights.
EDIT: Whoa, I am totally confused how my postal 2 post got here?
I prefer 1600x1200 6xFSAA 16xAA :)Quote:

I'm probably dropping a couple G's when Doom III comes out. I keep going back and forth about whether or not I want to upgrade my computer now... but I DEFINITELY will at or before Doom III is released.
See, here's the thing.
We got the decent procs right now. If you're an INTEL person (shudders and holds up crucifix) then you could commit your sins right now and get a proc and mobo right this instant. All you'd need is one or two gold bars from fort KNOX.
AMD, different story. Right now we only have the semi decent procs 2400+ and 2600+. But no goddamm mobo to put them on. KT400 is a joke with it's memory stick condstraints and Nforce2 isn't yet available. So to my thinking you really can't seriously upgrade an AMD system just yet. I think I'll be looking somewhere around these goodies.
Athlon 3000+
KT400+ / Nforce 2.
NV30
512 mb pc3200.
Nasty, cosidering NONE of this stuff is available yet. Ram sticks excepted.
When I get the feeling the game is about 2 weeks away, I'll head over to Newegg and place an order for the newest Nvidia videocard, and maybe a new mobo/cpu.
