Don't you all want to beable to burn a whole 700 MB + cd-r or cd-rw cd in 1 sec including lead in and lead out? So that means you could burn about 10 cds in 1 min if you include the time it takes to take the cd out, label it, put it in a case,etc. Maybe more. Now thats what i call fast!

I seriously doubt that a 1-second burner is possible... someone prove me wrong.

A 1 second burn isn't possible because of the mechanical parts of the cdrw drive. If cds turned into some sort of nonvolatile flash memory then it would be possible, but then again it wouldn't be "burning".

It was my birthday yesterday, one of my friends got me an AOPEN CRW4012 (40x 12x 48x Writer. I am clueless on writers and was wondering if this one is any good... what do u guys think? i have an option to switch it with other brands including asus, BenQ, Samsung and SONY.

What do u all suggest keep?

[EDIT] Was comparing prices: why is it that Brands like Plextor and Yamaha at the same spec, are priced twice as much as good brands like Lite-On, Aopen, BenQ, ASUS etc..? do Plextor and Yamaha offer some added benifits that others don't are they just charging the (2x)extra bucks for the brand nemae only

Plextor and yahama are the good brands. They are both rock solid. Lite-on is best buy for the $$$.

I did allot of research before finally buyiung my Lite-On DVD and without doubt Lite-On is the best value for money!!

AOPEN is fine. You pay through your *** for plextor and yamaha for the name, that's it.

I want larger media. 700mb just isn't enough sometimes. I'd like to see something around 1 gig.

1 second burners are impossible. A full 700MB CD in 1 second means:

1. The interface has to support at least a transfer rate of 700MB/sec. Even with Serial ATA transfer rates are limited to 150MB/sec, and those are just theoretical numbers - not real world performance numbers.

2. The source (hard drive, or another CD drive) that is giving the CD-RW data to burn needs to have at least a 700MB/sec transfer rate. The fastest CD-ROM drive is the Kenwood True 72X CD-ROM and that has a maximum theoretical transfer rate of 10.8MB/sec so CD To CD copying would be limited to 10.8MB/sec at best. Most IDE hard drives are limited to a 40MB/sec sustained transfer rate, so that is out of the question too.

*edit* Also the angular velocity required to burn a 700MB CD in 1 second would probably be too great for the drive to sustain, meaning the CD would probably damage the drive or fly out or something. Probably an exaggeration but at that kind of speed we're definetly going to hit that type of limitation.

dang it u beat me too it. only thing that can send data that fast is your ram but like he said cd cant handle it.
