To go along with the insanity that is MS. Look at Office XP Pro.
Access $300
Excel $300
Outlook $100
Powerpoint $300
Word $300
Lets see $1300 to buy all the pieces or $500 to just buy the suite, choices choices. (by the way all prices are off Staples website rounded to the nearest hundred)
Its based on a free OS. $20-$30 would be more inline. In fact you just listed all the reasons I will not pay for MS products. My MSDN subscription works just fine.Quote:

I was under the impression that since it was based on linux that they had to have it free to download.
It is based on linux, but what your essentially paying for is their Click-N-Run service. It lets you download a bunch of programs (I think 10 to start) that you can choose to customize your computer. It also includes updates for your system (i.e. service packs, patches, security, drivers). You get StarOffice which retails for $75. In the long run your getting a pretty good deal if all you want to do is use it for a few things around the home/office.Quote:

I went to their site and yes it did change. I believe it was 5.0 that was free. Anyway you are probably getting OEM which is $25 on their site. In fact less depending on the quantity you purchase. I'm guessing the Walmart PC got them a lot cheaper than $25.Quote:

I think Winux would have been a better name for it... Lindows sounds lame... maybe that's what they were going for though :D
