Actually - that would suck. Yes, they have lots of issues, but if MS went under, what OS would we use when we needed to upgrade? Linux? Yeah right - Linux is great if you know what you are doing, but I'd hate to see the idiots that buy 95% of PC's try to run a Linux machine. Having a stable standard OS that everyone uses has enabled most of the progress we have seen in PC's.

Well I think it would be great...as long as they lost all the patents and other companies could freely use all the microsoft patents we would probably start seeing OS's that are 10X's better and easier to use.

It's a crying shame that with the availability of true 3-d monitors that we don't have a 3-D OS yet. It would be nice also for OS's to be touch screen friendly also...I'd love to get a touch screen and play card game etc with one.

Actually What I really want is a open OS that no one owns...Open standard stuff is the future of computing anyways too. Propriety stuff is the way to failure and high costs...which is exactly your point of not wanting microsoft to fail I believe but in open source it doesn't matter if 1 or a 100 companies fail because someone will always be around to pick up the ball again.

Keep the same OS they have? Maybe software programmers could finally write something that will not be broken by MS in a month :)
