Which MSI motherboard? specifically which chipset? VIA or AMD?
MSI make both and you need the right driver.
Also which OS? If your using win98 chipset drivers its no wonder nothing works.
Well, im running Win ME.... and im not sure what the specific chipset is...i have an amd processor so im assuming that the chipset is amd? where can i find this info? or am i going to have to actually look at the motherboard?

You can find out what motherboard you have by finding the manual and telling me the model numbers, or look on the motherboard itself. The model # will be located differently on different motherboards but sometimes it is located near the PCI slots and sometimes near the memory slots. Just look for something with a mixture of letters and numbers.
When was the last time you formatted? Sounds like something really screwed up over your usual config so try a system restore if you have that feature turned on.

Chipset looks to be a VIA, processor AMD
and, inbetween the PCI slots numbers read: N1996
also inbetween the PCI slots reads : K7T Turbo Ver:3 (not sure if that has to do with anything)

If you havent upgraded chipset driver before, download the latest VIA 4in1 drivers from http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=2
Get 4in1 4.43v.zip and the Driver installation guide if you need it.
That might fix it.
Have you run the DXdiag tests yet? There's a common bug in win9x and DX8. sometimes it says the hardware functions are enabled when they'r actaually disabled and disbaling them may enable them etc. might still have to do that if thats the problem.
Changing video drivers in win9x can cause all sorts of problems so you might also need to do a complete driver removal in safe mode before reinstalling new drivers. especially if youve ever downgraded Nvidia drivers in winME.
But ive already said all that. Im just tired of giving out good advice for ppl to ignore it and keep asking the same question. sorry if it gets my goat.
ran dxdaig, tests showed up to be perfect..installed the new chipset drivers, still no go...
do you think ill need to re-format or something? maybe my motherboard/or graphics card is dead?

It could still be a driver problem. Try what i described in my first post. A proper driver cleanup.
By restarting in safe mode the OS loads a standard VGA driver so when you uninstall the Nvidia drivers via add remove programs and when you run detenator destroyer, those driver files wont be in use so can actually be deleted. other wise files in use at the time wont be deleted.
You can change display to a standard VGA fist but will need to reboot anyway. safe mode is just quiker.
Check device manage for any red or yellow flags to make sure you dont have any device conflicts or unknown devices hogging IRQ's
If that dont work maybe its time for a format.
Its still possible the graphics card is over heating. the fan might have stopped or if the HS might have come loose. its only help on by double sided tape. IMO they're all too small anyway and a 30C+ case wouldnt help.
Check it and check the temp of the core by holding a finger firmly to the PCB directly at the base of the core on the back of the card.
If you burn you finger in less than 3 seconds it probably too hot.
Voltage drop can be an Issue too but voltage and heat go hand it hand so start with heat. A format wouldnt solve that so make sure it running cool and sufficiently powered first. Check the motherboard 3.3v rail with MSI's PC Alert utility on in the system bios.
BTW, you did try 1x and 2x AGP right?

Okay, i will check the videocard temps in a little bit as i just turned the computer on
i DID try agp 2x but did not 1x as it was not an option in the BIOS...no luck with that.
It says the 3.3v rail comes out as 3.39v...so im not sure if thats a problem or not..

Those games wont work in safe mode becuse a standard VGA driver wont run them.
Use safe mode or change to a standard VGA driver before uninstalling the Nvidia drivers to make sure they get completely removed.
To enter safe mode hit the F8 key during boot device search and you should get an options menu where you will select safe mode.
Aternativly you can simply change display driver to standard VGA and reboot.
One youve uninstalled Nvidia driver through Add/Remove program, run detenator destroyer, reboot and install Nvidia drivers.
Windows will search for them automatically after the reboot.
If using WHQL drivers then just cancel the install procces, clear unknown devices from device manager and run the driver setup.exe
If using a non self installing driver package then make sure its extracted from zip form first, then just point the windows driver installer to that location.
Voltage looks good. Check the heat with your finger on the back of the video proccesor like i described.
I ran into a problem when i booted in safe mode...the mouse would not move :( is this supposed to happen? i dont think so..i tried it on two different mice.. one generic optical mouse and a generic ball mouse.. neither worked.. :(
I'm pretty sure Windows ME has support for USB in safe mode, but better safe to ask than be sorry, are both of those mice USB?
I forgot which operating system it was, but my USB mouse would not work under safe mode, only with PS/2 mice did it work.
could be a refresh rate problem. anyone got a link to that refresh rate program? the game could be trying to use a refresh rate not supported by his monitor and with that he could lock the refresh rate to 60 and see if that works.
