Try to understand for once that over 75% of sales Nvidia and ATI makes are cards under $150. That whole "ati will have no competition" is stupid. The high end cards are basically loss leaders except most people won't buy it.
Without counting the development, workers, utilities and all the other capitol that goes into making the physical product how much money do you think is in those cards? Probably less than $20. This is why they make make most of their money on lesser selling cards because a large percentage will buy them, and because they have the "fastest video card out" consumers will look into their brand first.
So since the ultra gfx card is only going to be a limited run and unavailable anymore after supplies run out how does this affect the performance crown?
Is the 400mhz clocked gfx fast enough to beat the 9700 pro? If not can they still advertise having the fastest card based on the limited number of special edition ultras they sell even though it's not going to be a production card and unavailable?
The 400 Mghz card can't beat the 9700 pro in the FPS race.
Nvidia can do this, but it will do no good for the company at all relationship with with the Nvidia junkies.
I hope the NV35 fixes what the FX could not do in the noise department.
I also wonder about this - since the card will not be available to buy for most people should it even be allowed to be included in rankings like 3Dmark 2003 at all?Quote:

I suspect that the 3Dmark-guys will include it, but if they do that they probably make way for GPU-companies to make strictly limited runs of supercooled cards costing several $1000 each that are never meant for regular sale just to top the charts.
Like I wrote the other day, maybe it should be a standard when it comes to how many cards has to be available to the general public before they are allowed to be on rankings like these - in the same way that lots of car-races with 'stock' cars demand that the car-manufacturer release a certain amount of identical cars for 'regular' sale before they are allowed to enter certain types of races.
Well Nvidia better get moving soon because the cards will be paced like this soon.Quote:

1 NV350
2 9700 pr0
3 9700
4 9500 pro or denutted FX
3 and 4 will be the $150 average person cards soon and Nvidia still charges a top end price for its old Ti 4600,4800(Same s#it different pile) like there still king of the hill when they are infact they dropping off the top end chart.
Actually, they will be paced like this once Nvidia can finally get something out of the door.Quote:

1 NV350
2 9700 pr0
3 9700

1 R9900 Pro (R350)
2 R9700 Pro
3 NV30
4 R9500 Pro
5 GF4 4600
With the 9500 Pro falling close to the $200 line, they are selling like hotcakes now. And once the R350s drop, I assume that there will be a price drop for the other R3xx chips, meaning that a R9700Pro might be had for $200 and the R9500Pro will become the 'value' chip.
A card that beats a 4600 quite readily with AF and AA as a value chip is mind-blowing.
Those holding out for the NV35 might as well wait for the R400 to come out as well, as I do not think that ATI is going to ever slack off on Nvidia.
I'm not really surprised. Nvidia rushed the FX to compete with the Radeon 9700 Pro and in some respects, it worked but doesn't really provide much of a challenge otherwise. R.I.P. FX. Welcome NV35.
That's right. ATI found an opening in Nvidia's defenses and is exploiting it to the fullest extent. Now that ATI has gotten a much better grip on the market, they are NOT going to let go anytime soon.Quote:

Its a shame so many peoples feathers were ruffled and the card is not even going to be released. :D
Nvidia is making a smart move and they will come back with NV35.
Stupid, but do you believe that nvidia's people read what we write in the forums and take decisions about their cards?
The 9500 Pro at Newegg is only $197.. the Atlantis R9700 non-pro is $242, it'll be the one going under $200 soon. 9500 Pro will likely be $150 as soon as the R350 comes out, maybe cheaper. ATI has all market bases covered, as well as solid 3rd party support.Quote:

FX was not canceled in fact , they only canceled the overclocked version .
The card was build originaly to work @ 400/800 so in fact they will still hawe in sale the FX because this the normal top of the line stable card .
When they designed the card originaly they did not belived that the FX would not beat the 9700 @ 325/600 , after all we talk about a card with 400 gpu and 800 memory.
If you yourself believe teh answer to be 'no' then ou wouldn't be posting.Quote:

NV35, bah dont make me laugh.
ATi will soon have 3 DX9 series of cards.
9900Pro
9700Pro
9500Pro
....nVidia.. er. um
GFFX?
And thats not to mention R400 in the 2nd half of 2003. nVidia is toast. Nice knowing btw. lol!
I expect nVidia playing catchup from here on. Don't be surprised if they pull out of the high end video card market by 2004.
