This is great work, janko10. I've been wanting to upgrade to an 8RDA+ and HyperX for some time, but because of the issues you and other people have been having, decided to wait and see how this plays out (I was just going to go with different RAM, but if I wait I can always hope prices come down ;) )
HUGE gains??? With FSB400 and DDR400 RAM you are already saturating the FSB... perhaps you could clarify.Quote:

Exactly and when you put another stick in there for Dual channel...it will not POST...you'll have to drop it down to 180 mhz fsb.Quote:

the ram has twice the bandwidth. If it needs to use more bandwidth its there to be used.Quote:

Try 3dmark with the same amount ram, the same mhz / fsb setup, and compare it in 1 and 2 stick (dual channel) setups...you'll get a much higher 500 or so higher 3dmark if you do...because your system is faster.

Thanks. Sounds like it makes sense, I guess there are bound to be situation where the FSB is waiting for RAM requests; I just didn't think it would be a 'huge' difference. I wish I had another stick to test it out for myself!! :)Quote:

I've posted in a few of janko,s threads and am haveing probs with
256 modules...
I have been runnig 3x256 KHX and can only run stable at around 183 fsb.
Right now I'm running 2 sticks and can run as hi as 190 fsb but not stable untill I drop it to 185fsb.
My worst probem is trying to run the newer bioses ? I can run only 1 stick (at default setup)with anything newer than the 3129.BIN? If I try to use the newer bioses I get either a blue screen or no boot at all and get a hi lo beeping sound when trying to use 2 sticks or more??
With my setup I should be able to hit 200fsb easily and run stable.

To be honest i haven't gone into a game tested it and removed and put in a same amount of ram to see if the fps were higher. But i would guess based on the 3dmarks i've run it makes a noticeable difference.Quote:

Yep its some sort of incompatability or maybe im throwing around a voltage issue if the curcial ram doesn't work well either.Quote:

If you have dual channel memory active with 2 sticks of ram on an Epox 8rda+ A1 stepping (kingston only tested so far). It will not allow you to run stable and in some cases even post past 180 mhz memory speed. There is no real way for me to say if its the board or the ram...but i would guess its a board issue because the same ram on an A3 stepping board runs at 200+ just fine.

That's not the point though, it should still work. Plus, dual channel is not really the issue. Having to run asynch with the FSB is a much bigger performance hit.Quote:

Yes, the 2 sticks is the issue. Like I said a few people with single 512mb sticks are doing fine and then others aren't. Could be bad batches of ram produced by Kingston, who knows. Hopefully Epox will be able to reproduce the issues in the lab.Quote:

Yea less than i thought. Whats up with the 400 DDR being slower. I think its cause the bus speed was at 166 and couldn't keep up. IT would probably be a better comparison if they raised the fsb up to 200 mhz.

I wasn't saying it doesn't matter that it doesn't work cause it doesn't make much of a difference. Of course, it should always work. I was simply pointing out the difference cause someone was wondering about single vs dual channel (as shown by A7N8X S-Ch vs 2 Ch.)Quote:
